snorkel mod
I recently saw a hot tip on modification of the air cleaner snorkel as found on (at least) Squirts, Wombats, and Toads describing cutting off the back wall to enhance air flow into the air box. Before I go chopping into them, what would be the issue with simply removing the entire snorkel? I don't want to start cutting them apart. I hear that "they" have not been making any for awhile (46 years)

Re: snorkel mod
Matt, you will lose some splash protection - but removing the snorkel would indeed flow better than the trimmed snorkel shown in the Service Bulletin. Some day I need to do an article on the BIG (hand made) snorkel that really, really flows well and retains splash protection.

That's the one, Giver. Captain, that would be excellent. All the bikes have the potential to see splash but the Squirts are guaranteed to see splash - and lots of it. Thanks gentlemen.

So is the rag part of the mod? Victor

Re: snorkel mod
A guess: I think the rag is placed there just for the art work to provide contrast to the all black snorkel so the cutaway detail is more visible.
Re: snorkel mod
I was going to ask, how would cutting the back off & then stuffing a rag down in it give it better air flow??? Bet someone tries it with the rag anyway! Victor

Hahaha, I think you are right Matt... otherwise leaving the rag in there would probably offset any benefit from the cutaway. I have left a rag in the intake manifold between the carb and the cylinder... ummm... don't ask!

I tried that myself, Pop. Didn't work out very well. Foul language was involved - both before and after. Now I use about 3 feet of blue shop towel. Hard to miss.
