Stuck starter plunger

Post by bobwhitman »

Old 22mm Mikuni- brass starter plunger is stuck in the pot metal carb body. I’m beginning heat/penetrating fluid treatments. Any suggestions?

Check the slide guide "pin" to be sure it is metal. If not, be very careful with the application of heat. There are some carb bodies with plastic guide pins.

What are you soaking it in? If you have it submerged, try heating the liquid it's in. You don't need to boil it but the heat will help things expand and get things apart.

Got it. Penetrating fluid, heat, patience.

Next time try a soak of 1 part PineSol and 1 part water. It got some stuck piston rings unstuck when penetrating fluid and heat failed.
