Help with Rickman Hodaka ID

[LHH]

Frame says "MFD by Rickman" stamped with "770-585Z10"

Metal tank, 100 CC hodaka, but looks like different forks and 18 inch rear wheel.
I have not been able to find this frame number on the Hodaka or Rickman sites.
My assumption a 1972ish Rickman Hodaka 100 Micro Metisse, but they used other components over the years so now it's hard to tell.
Looks like it was set up for Flat Track use before.
Can anyone help with the ID?

I contacted Rickman in England looking for help with the following response:
Dear Sir,
In the old Rickman records they only made 412 hodaka frames in 1970. I cannot find any record of your numbers and sorry we stock no parts for this frame as it comes under MK1V and we have no mould for this fibreglass. It may be a Pat French bike but no way of knowing as Pat died a long while ago.

After more research, frame # L101 to L174, 305-402, 467-566, 695-728, 808-843, 964-1043. All listed as Hodaka chassis for Steens/ USA. Using this listing 770 was listed as a Zundapp MX chassis. Also listed is a Metisse chassis # B544 also to Steens. Sorry for the confusion.

That's what I would guess, Zundapp chassis, Hodaka motor installed. Not a bad thing,

Should have a tail piece with the seat as part of it. Should have a brake in the front wheel. But for flat track it's just the basics.

I agree with Thrown. This bike is a Rickman Zundap that has been converted to Hodaka power. The Rickman Hodaka was powered by a iron barrel Super Rat engine. This bike is powered by a newer alloy barrel engine. Their is a number in the front of the right side engine case. That number will I.D. the engine.

The Rickman Zundapp was likely the least desirable of the Rickmans. The engine was funky and parts are expensive. A Hodaka conversion would be an upgrade. I suspect your Rickman is Combat Wombat or Super Combat powered. This would be a very desirable bike to a vintage flat track racer.

Owner says 100cc but Hodaka list as a Combat Wombat engine which is a 125cc I think.

Is anybody using these bikes in 125cc vintage motocross these days?

Yes. The Combat Wombat is a piston port engine, that would put you in the classic 125 class. AHRMA has some weird rules so I don't know about then, but most others would have a class for you.

If AHRMA is the only game in town get in contact with AHRMA's Fred Guidi. He is on their board of directors,a Hodaka racer, and all around good guy. He could tell you if AHRMA has a class for your Rickman.

Here’s a Rickman Metisse frame chart from FB showing frame differences.
Z or H stamp is a dead ringer.

I’m no expert but believe all Rickman Hodaka were all blue glass and tanks were glass, with indent at gas cap ( seeking one btw), not metal.

Shouldn't be a problem racing in AHRMA. The only place I see where they limit the frame is in the 100cc class, at least in MX. I didn't look up flat track.

is this the same frame as the Montessa 250(except for engine mounts)?

No. There are many differences between the two. The main one being the front down tubes. Yours has two, like a Hodaka. The Montessa has a single down tube like a Triumph or BSA. The forks and shocks are also different.
