Condensers???

Post by viclioce »

Has anyone done a comparison study of the condensers out there & found which automotive or MC condensers are compatible for use with our Hodakas? If not, I’d like to volunteer to do some of the finger work (on the web!).

Can anyone tell me what the farad rating for the Ace condensers ( models 90, 92, 92B+, 93’s and 96’s), and, are they different for the later models like Wombats, Combat Wombats, and then the 99, 01, 02, 03, 97, 98 and whenever it stops & changed to CDI?

If I can get the different ratings for different models, I can then search out different condensers available and either find a match, or a close enough match so that we can keep going!

Let me know! :ugeek: Victor

The Official Hodaka Workshop Manual for the ACE 90 (and the supplement for the ACE 100) lists the capacitance of the condenser as: .25 to .27 Mf (=/- 10%). The Official Workshop Manual for the Model 94 Wombat and the Model 95 Combat Wombat lists exactly the same values for the condenser.

Finding ones that work is simple! Finding ones that fit perfectly is not. That`s why you buy parts before they go obsolete. Joe.

Yes, finding one that fits (if you want to keep the bike exactly as original) could be a problem if the stock ones are no longer available. But, if you don't mind remote mounting of the condenser, there are plenty of options available. Further, I bet if you could research it (have a good friend at a multi-brand motorcycle dealer that would let you compare) you could come up with a match (or very close match) to the Hodaka's condenser that would fit.

Dirty_rat I tried that yesterday. No go. I asked if I could do a comparison, but I was kind of brushed off on the Service Mgr., who is a friend of mine.

No other dealers here in town. They own the Suzuki, Yamaha, Kawasaki & KTM rights. Closest Honda dealer is 70 miles away. So I’m going to check with the one local independent we have. :ugeek: Victor

Looking thru micro-fiche diagrams of the ignition systems installed on late 60's, early 70's Suzuki, Yamaha and Kawasaki two strokes might be fruitful. I don't know about Honda ignition systems - they often had exclusive arrangements with manufacturers. Kokusan-Denki was the mfg of the Hodaka magneto units . . . and they were a likely supplier for Suzuki, Yamaha and Kawasaki. If so, there is almost certainly a "match" somewhere.

Yes! Kokusan Ignition Condensers. That`s what you want to look up. Honda Super Cub 50 Condenser Part # 30250-001-013 or Sudco 617-009. Some have a wire soldered to it: others don`t. Honda Condenser # 30250-110-024 is the same one. The diameter of these aftermarket condensers is a little smaller but fit great! One seller on EBAY has Honda # 30250-001-024 for $12.95. Check these out. Joe.
