F prefix engine question
F prefix engine question
There is a F motor for sale on eBay. According to Hodaka-parts this is an early model 93 replacement engine.
What are the differences between the early 93 engines and later ones like the 93b ? My 93b has a “P” lower end and I’m wondering if it would be worth it to have the F engine.
Thanks,
Bob

Honestly, I think your best bet is to TAKE YOUR TIME and locate the correct M code Engine. Look for M12434 and Higher. It seems that when someone is looking for something it winds up on EBAY soon after. Terry at HPI may have a case set. Positively for sure someone in this site does. I had one and sold it. It depends on just how factory correct you want your Super Rat. For my 93A to be 100% Factory correct I just need to put 3 things on it: the rear tire, the Kill button and 50 teeth Steel rear Sprocket. I have all 3 in my closet. The bike is ridden so those parts will stay there. When I retire it those parts will go on it. I`ve been riding it for 47 years and see no reason to stop now! Joe ormonde.

I checked out that Engine. Have the seller remove the Cover(clutch side). I don`t think it`s a F code. It looks like a P code that has been altered! If it doesn`t have a Needle bearing for the counter shaft, it`s bogus! Also, it`s a large flange case. I`m fairly certain that the F code was a small flange. Joe.

If you expand the pic of the motor number, you can see the letter has been modified, you can see the original letter behind the overdubbed one.

I`ve seen this far too many times! They do it to mislead ? Quite often they just don`t know any better. When I sell something I do my best to get it right. Super Rat parts are Pricey and sellers know that. The correct code is where all of the Value is. You see it in the Corvette parts market too! I have a 1963 327 Chevy block. The Codes on the front of the Block are for a 63 Impala. The Codes on the rear are the same as a 375 HP Corvette. So they shave the Decks down to remove the Impala Codes and try to pass it off as a 1963 375 Horse Power Corvette Split Window Block! Shameful ! Joe Ormonde.

That is indeed an F code engine. Looks like a double strike to me.
The F code engines were made to Model 93 specs, large cylinder deck, needle bearing bosses for BOTH the main and counter shaft. I had and sold an F code engine case 2 - 3 years ago. I was going to use it in my Super Rat rescue project but was able to repair the original engine case instead.

Re: F prefix engine question
I know one thing. I would under No circumstance have an Engine in any of my bikes that had no Serial numbers or stamped over ones for this reason. My brother Franks buddy Henry was stopped by the Ontario police. The Engine Serial Numbers on his Dirt Bike were gone. The Make and model I don`t know, BUT they were on the Case above the Counter shaft Sprocket. That area was broken off by the Chain. They Impounded the Bike. Why? The Serial Numbers were missing from the Engine. A mess! Impound fees, Court fees, fines and more! Missing or Altered Serial Numbers are suspect and they can Impound your Bike. Altered I can understand. Stay clear of those Engines. But Hodaka sold Blank cases and I know Honda did too. In the end, Henry got his Bike back with the information provided by the Shop they bought the Motorcycle from and a Judge that would listen to reason. Think about buying anything that the Serial Numbers are missing or have been stamped over! I sure won`t ! Joe

If you're talking the casting numbers, no they do not.
