Ace trials project finished !

I really happy to finally have this pretty much done. Why ? So I can finally get out and ride it ! I can already tell that I,m going to need two of these. It,s so light and easy to handle that I think it will be more fun and easy on my somewhat aging body so I,m going to need a cross country version.
Still need a few things like decent shocks and bars,but I love it. A big thank you all that have helped with much needed advice.

Thanks Dale,I will give an update after I get a chance to ride a few sections. I,m sure it will need much fine tuning.

Thanks Matt, the pipe started out as an Ace 90 pipe from Bruce. I wanted to copy what guys did back in the day and tuck it in more while adding a longer header pipe. It looks okay from a few feet away,but not near as nice as some of the workmanship I,ve seen on here. After looking at these pics I,m not sure if I like the aluminum paint on the heat shield and might end up painting it black.
I hardly ever compete in trials and really only ride it for fun so I decided to gamble on Shinco tires. I wanted the smaller rear so I could run the stock chain guard because more often than not it,s muddy when I get a chance to go riding.
I,m quite surprised how soft they are and I think they just might work pretty good.

A friend of mine used to help us silk screen campaign signs. We would often reject signs which didn’t look perfect. But he would say at 50 feet away at 50 miles an hour, you’ll never see the difference! Victor

Just a small update. I had time to do two heat cycles today and it seems to run great. I couldn’t help myself and on the second one I snicked it into first and did a couple figure eights in the yard to see how the clutch worked. The clutch works really well so thank you to the clutch blue printing article. I also think a smaller front sprocket will be better than the stock 15 that’s on it now. The only bad part about today is that I discovered that the wombat tank leaks in a couple of spots...bummer. One leak is on a bottom seam and the other is where the pet cock bung meets the tank. Any ideas on a fix ? I have an Ace tank to try,but it,s not as nice.

I have had excellent results with the Caswell 2-part epoxy tank sealing system. I favor the burst pack rendition. Less messy that having to mix it in a tub. Follow the instructions to a tee and it works very well.

Thanks Matt, I was thinking about trying that or Red Coat. I have used Caswell on my fiberglass tanks with varying degrees of success,but I think that it does go back to prep,like you said about following the directions to a tee. Not sure what a blister pack is but I will look for that.

Sorry Mac, I should have been more specific. The burst pack is a plastic two-part pack with a seal separating the resin from the hardener. You just squeeze the pack and the partition breaks to allow mixing the components. Then, all you do is squish the contents back and forth for a minute or two, cut the corner off the package, and squeeze it into the tank. It saves having to measure out equal portions, mix, and the like. Just a neater and simpler way to do it and less messy. Otherwise its the same stuff.

Okay,thanks Matt. That does sound a lot better than the two can deal and trying to ensure equal parts. Here is something you may find funny. I said that it might need lower gearing because I snicked it into first gear and did some figure eights. Can you guess what I forgot about ? The Ace shift pattern so yes I was in second thinking it was first lol.

I'm with you, Mac. I'm especially bad about that when I've been riding something else and the fire up an Ace.
