Ace 100B+Fork Height

Finally getting around to servicing my forks and trading the pitted sliders for the clean ones that came as extras with my bike; I noticed that the forks were set in the triple tree extending about an inch of tube above the top clamp; from what I can find of pictures and info it looks as if the correct adjustment was to level the top of the tube with the top clamp and the nut extended above that. Any advice on this setting from my gurus??? As always, thanks for all the help and expertise. -- david

Go ahead and set them up flush.

The P.O. May have set the bike up for someone of smaller stature. It’s pretty typical to set the fork tops flush with the top of the trees, unless needed for that reason. Victor

Ok--thanks for the responses; the"restoration" pics online that had a closer view of the fork tops all showed the fork tops to be flush to the clamp with the nut above that, so that's what I'm going with; surprised to feel such a difference in a 1" inch adjustment in terms of ride position and feel--all good here. thanks again, david

The brochure's for the 92B+, 93B, Wombat and Combat Wombat all show space above the fork handle plate an inch or two. -------------Clarence

Yup, 1" of fork leg above the top triple clamp is period correct.

Sliding the forks down through the triple clamps such that fork tube is flush with the top triple clamp will slightly increase the self-centering tendency of the steering - which could be deemed a good thing if you were going desert racing.

The stock fork setting will behave a bit better for turning on the trails (or on the scrambles/MX track).
