Installing Needle Bearings in 92 Cases

Post by hodakamax »

Any opinions on what the interference clearance should be on this procedure? Minus .001 as I remember (Or don't remember) to get a nice press fit....Maxie

I measured a 70 Super Rat counter shaft bore and new needle bearing and came up with .002 inch.
Factory Needle Bearing: .987 inch and .985 inch Bearing Bore. I understand your concern. Too loose and it could walk out and too tight will deform the bearing. It looks like .002 inch is it! Joe Ormonde.

Thanks Joe, I think we have come to a consensus also on the Hodaka Fan Club. .001-.002" with about .0012" ideal and .002" maximum.

On the Bronze Bushings closer to .001 would be my choice. The Factory Needle Bearing Part#931004 is an odd ball. It`s actually a Drawn Cup style needle bearing pressed inside of a HEAVY shell. BURLY little bearing! That one would be hard to distort! Joe Ormonde.
