Dirt Squirt 80 rear wheel help

Post by Tether »

I recently picked up 2 Dirt Squirt 80s. One fairly nice and the other rough.
I’m getting the rough one going and found that something doesn’t look right with the rear wheel.
The axle nut is only on about half the threads when tight.
The brake backing plate does not fit in flush, see photo
The hub is different from the other bike and uses a non-dished sprocket but it does line up correct, at least by eyeball.
I want to make it right. Should I start looking for a correct wheel? Or?

Yes, definitely the wrong hub. I am on the hunt for the correct wheel/hub but not having any luck so far.

Found a great rear wheel assembly at California Hodaka. It came with all the parts including a good tire. Thank you California Hodaka!!
This was the rougher of the two DS 80s lots of cleaning and painting. She’s ready to ride, runs great. I will be selling this one and keeping the other one.

Great looking restoration, especially since it was the rougher one!!! Quick question, is the shift lever the original or an aftermarket. Reason I ask is it looks to be aluminum and I might like to add to my bikes.

Thanks

Dirty Rat,

Yes the shifter is aluminum. I don’t believe it is original. The person I got the bike from told me it was from a Honda, didn’t say what model. I like the shifter though.

Yeah, it looks a lot like an early Cr 125 shifter, but I could be wrong, just a guess after looking at the picture.
