Turn Signals on an Ace 100?
Turn Signals on an Ace 100?
Hodakaholics! Looking to make my ride a little more visible by adding turn signals. Does anybody have experience with adding turn signals to the Ace 100 harness? Has anyone come across aftermarket turn signals that bypass the harness and run off their own battery? Thanks!
Re: Turn Signals on an Ace 100?
RL you could possibly use LED turn signals, if you can find them in 6 volt. Not sure what’s available, but LED are extremely low wattage use. You could hook them all up to run off the battery & a switch and just ground them to the frame/handlebars and add a switch to control.
Just thinking out loud here, but if the bulbs are available, it should be easy enough. You could add bar mount lamps up front and rear signals which could bolt to the rear rack, even if you had to drill mounting holes for them. Victor
P.S. 6 volt turn signal bulbs which would fit Hodaka or other signal light assemblies on Amazon for very reasonable prices!

Take a look at the Model 94a Wombat wiring diagram. Pay particular attention to the pink and gray wires. All you would need to do is add the pink and gray wires indicated in the Wombat 94a diagram, to your existing harness. The switch will be the hard part. Either use an aftermarket switch or use one off a later model Hodaka, i.e., Wombat 94a or any Road Toad.

**EDIT** I forgot to include the Orange wire which provides power via flasher from battery.

Looks like ALL the wiring diagrams from the former SH site are gone. Provided for reference:

Appreciate the feedback gentlemen! Definitely gives me something to think about. As I was telling Harpster, I think I’ll hold off on the signals until I find a stronger/longer lasting battery. After about a month, this Bikemaster I’m using barely has enough juice to make the horn audible. I’ve got my hand signals in the meantime. Thanks again for the ideas and that wiring harness diagram!!

I use this one: https://www.batteriesplus.com/productdetails/sla6=5f. Fits nicely in the battery box with a 1 in. piece of thick black foam rubber to fill the gap.
I am on my 2nd season on the same battery and I forgot to use the battery tender last winter. Battery still holds a great charge and the higher aH won't hurt your system. It will just make the horn louder and the lights brighter.

Just for fun, check with your favorite outfitter (Cabelas, Gander Mountain, etc.). I picked up a six pack of batteries which look exactly like the one Roger linked to for under 10 bucks apiece. They are six volt batteries designed to power waterfowl decoys with the twirly wings. Two solid years and going strong on the two currently in service.

You can also find them at Lowe’s. Ive used similar on my Yamahas as well. Nice as they don’t leak and can be installed in any position.
NP4-6 is the generic model number. yuans/Genesis makes the best ones, but they cost more.

If you want the turn signals, fine. But on most states I believe you’re only required to have it equipped for the road as it came when it was built at the factory.
The Ace 100’s before 1975 did not have turn signals new, but were Not required equipment. So it shouldn’t prevent you from being able to get it licensed. It helps if you can show documentation (sales posters are s good one) of the bike “As New!” Victor

Re: Turn Signals on an Ace 100?
You are absolutely correct Victor. Having done (very) little research on the subject awhile back, Iowa as well as most states required turn signals on streetable machines beginning in 1973. Prior to that, headlight, tail light, brake light, and horn were all that were required.
Re: Turn Signals on an Ace 100?
That’s because people were still smart enough to know how to use hand signals!!! LOL!!! Victor
