Re: for sale section
Question, opinion, maybe its time to get things like a sale area done, instead of trying to consolidate all the different groups sale area,s together, including the classified program, what would hurt if we started all over again with a clean slate, don,t spend any more time on trying to stitch all the programs together, start anew, and fresh with our own forum site. It seems its a time consuming, thing with all the details it takes to run everything together, good idea in the beginning, but its not getting things done. Stop and start fresh. Gary and Stu have been doing lots of hard work to get all things right, but they have their own jobs and its time consuming. Start anew, and simple, and get it at least working, so all can use easily , then work from there. We need something that works now, we are losing ground and confidence from the Hodaka at large owners. Bruce Young

Re: for sale section
Bruce has a point here.
Couple that with Paul Stannard's change of priorities. Nobody promoted Hodaka like Paul's work did.
To support the interest in these motorcycles requires parts.
From what I see, eBay promotes guys to part out bikes.
Finding a way to keep them in one piece requires a different approach.
I salute Hodaka-Parts.com for it's heroic efforts. And the considerable help of Hodaka Parts Idaho.
But there's more out there and more opportunity to keep it going.
Seems to me supporting eBay is supporting guys breaking up what's left of Hodaka by parting rather than building up what's salvageable.
Just my take, could be wrong. Just ask my wife.

More comments; I feel, make it simple, Make it for club members only, there should be a club disclaimer presented, simple but to the point, Pictures required, with eng or frames numbers required and title info as well for bikes and pictures for parts, All ads will be dropped after a 30day period. If ads get more than five, complaints that person will not be allowed to run other ads period.
Ad fees, $1.00 for Parts ad, $3.00 for Bike ads, all collected fee,s to benefit the Hodaka Museum in Athena. We should make it as clean and as simple as possible to use. I would like the disclaimer, be something similar to the one used on Marks vintage bikes and parts. I also want the club not to be held liable for any false ads or be involved with payments or refunds, those will be between the seller and the buyer. The club will have no skin in the game, except to offer club members a place to buy and sell Hodaka items.
Last but not least this is a good thing for the whole Hodaka world as we know it today, like I said before there have been major changes going into effect across the country by suppliers of Hodaka parts, and the club and those suppliers can work together and support the Hodaka club site with ease together. It will benefit all of us, in the end. Bruce Young

Re: for sale section
Hello, again, after some consideration and more thoughts, I would like to change some things I stated before. Selling site;; #1 for club members only, #2 very simple to use, #3 requirements-IE, pictures of items or machine for sale, details of said item, title, eng. numbers, frame numbers, proper id of part for sale, prior to putting on site. #4, location, and contact info. all these could be on a use menu to sell on site. #5 no selling fees for anyone, to many complications with fees. #6 if to many complaints about seller occur take action. Main thing something needs to get going, Its been too long in the works now. Seems to be to much, to tie all Hodaka sites together right now. Start all over again clean and to the point,
but lets put our collective minds together, and make it work. #7 all ads drop after 30 days.
I know Gary and Stu, have been working on this project all the time and have been putting countless hours, but they have lives outside Hodaka world as well. Big thanks to both of them for has been worked on to this point, but all seems too hard to use now, lets rethink this program. Bruce Young, Lets help them with constructive thoughts, not too many but basic use plans.

Re: for sale section
The no fee idea is good, but have an option to donate to the site. Also until the for sale is up and running, being able to incorporate ads right into the current board, we're all on it anyway.

Thank you all for all the input, Things will change, but all good changes take time, I was just was hoping that maybe that we should start all over fresh and get something simple and usable started and then latter add back in some of the great ideas, being worked on now. We need something better than what is out there now. Help. Bruce Keep the suggestions coming in.

Whether you start from scratch, or overhaul an existing platform, it needs to be user friendly, and secure. And you need to keep the alphabet people in check.
Re: for sale section
Security. This is exactly why the existing forum platform won't be modified to have a for sale section.thrownchain wrote:Whether you start from scratch, or overhaul an existing platform, it needs to be user friendly, and secure. And you need to keep the alphabet people in check.
I am not part of the web development but as admin for the current forum I can say that it is not a good idea to be posting names, addresses, emails, phone numbers, etc on this site.
The new platform is going to happen but only as our volunteer developer finds time.

Re: for sale section
Would it be reasonable to post parts for sale on this forum and have any interested member contact me by my email?
Seems like there's an option to "contact by email" here.
The two parties could transact as private individuals. They accept responsibility for themselves and accept or decline any risk they see.
If a Hodaka Club member wants a part for HIS bike, not to resell, (repeat, not to resell) I'd be willing to help.
Yes, I want some kind of money for it. Likely less than ebay. But the part's doing nobody any good sitting on my shelf.
Seems like guys in a club should have a way to keep things going for the club if they're willing to help keep members riding.
I'm inexperienced in clubs. This is the only one I joined. Well, I was in boy scouts 50 years ago.
Look, maybe I'm missing something.

Re: for sale section
I'm with you, Al. I fully understood and respected the fact that in its first incarnation, this forum was provided for no charge on the Strictly Hodaka website as, for lack of a better term, a gift from Paul Stannard to all of us. He bankrolled the whole shebang. I completely understood the importance of abstaining from any buying/selling activities which would negatively impact his business. I also continue to support the currently existing parts houses that allow us to maintain the serviceability of our Hodies. They should always be considered our primary resources for obtaining parts so that they thrive and in turn, secure the future of the marque for us enthusiasts. Having said all that, I see no reason now that the striking of deals privately among members would cause a problem. I'm completely naive regarding how to set something like this up but it could be as simple as a posting titled "I need a cylinder head for a '67 Ace 90". With a reply, "I have one available and its $25 plus shipping". Done. That would at least get the ball rolling. It would also eliminate the hassles and fees associated with ebay AND keep it in the "family". What I don't know are the potential security and liability risks involved. All the haggling, transmission of images, and arrangements could be taken care of via private email. I'm sure I'm missing something here - my guess is that it falls under the concern for maintaining security of private information.
Re: for sale section
Matt. Great input!
One of the reasons we had a requirement over at Delphi to keep the sale online was to avoid situations where folks got screwed.
There were, initially when the forum started, times when non-member 3rd parties came in and offered parts for sale. Forum members got screwed several times and the moderators stepped in and made all posts for sale to stay on line so that other people could watch, sell & buy without there being any underhanded sales tactics going on. Everything happens in plain site.
The members also became very good at monitoring themselves, so that if someone posted an item for sale and said Best Offer, another member usually beat the moderators to say You must post a price, no make offers.
Frankly, as long as no one offers something for sale and there’s no fight over who is first in line, then everyone can go about their business. Victor

Smart Victor. Sad that it took a bunch of losers wrecking a good thing by robbing honest people of their hard earned money to necessitate the change. Just a matter of time on that one. Sounds like the new set-up is more secure.
Re: for sale section
Well, in thinking about this, the Hodaka Forum isn’t open to the public to join for free. So it would at least seem that it would be harder for someone to become a member just to post “deceptive sales.” Victor

True Victor. I didn't think about that. The membership fee might weed out a few of the charlatans.
Re: for sale section
What??? It doesn't cost anything to join the Hodaka Club Forum. Never has. And, we get multiple scammers joining every day.viclioce wrote:Well, in thinking about this, the Hodaka Forum isn’t open to the public to join for free. Re: for sale section
I didn't know that Dale. I just figured since the forum merged onto the club website now required club membership to be on it. Sheesh - the internet is really a double-edged sword.
Re: for sale section
This chat group is open to the public. There are no club plans to make it otherwise at this point. Merging the various software platforms the various entities have used over the years into a cohesive site has proven more challenging than originally thought. My apologies for the setbacks and delays. The one thing we have committed to do is keep this board, as well as the club membership board functional without interruption until the the switch is thrown.
We have some cool stuff up our sleeves and will do our best to make it simple to use as well. As far as a for sale section - its still in the works.
Thanks for your suggestions and continued support!
Gary

If the old forum platforms aren't compatible then find a new one, start fresh , put in the safe guards the old ones didn't have. With the new technology available it would be the way to go.

Re: for sale section
Just a random thought. Instead of a for sale section and all the problems associated with it. Why not a parts needed section? If someone is looking for something specific post it up and see who responds. Have all transactions done by pm or email and post a thank you when you have a deal.
Re: for sale section
A parts needed section is an interesting concept. Thanks for that idea!
