New Steen bike

Post by Stahlhelms »

Just picked this up for my son.
Any way of dating it?

There's a number on the engine 120081 and on the front of the frame 6157321.

We're new to these, so any help/advice would be appreciated.

I'd say because of the Alsport /Steen on the tank it is a later model, early 70s? Motor is basically an Ace 100 motor, body work is available on ebay. They seem to be popping up on a regular basis so the build should be fun.

Thanks, I think the goal is to get it running and play with it a bit to see if he likes it before sinking too much money in it.
What kind of speed do these have?

Uh, the motor appears to be Fuji and not Hodaka. If so, Ace 100 parts are not going to work. You would need to source Fuji parts if required.
Nice find.

Ooops, my bad, gotta look at the pics harder before answering. I can refer you to a Fuji parts guy if you need it. Body work is still the same. That does explain the weird motor number. And if you want you can bolt a Hodaka Ace 100 in it if you so desire.

If you get it running well (which will probably take at least new engine seals as the old ones will probably be worn out/dried out) the bike will go anywhere from 30 mph up to 45-50 mph, depending on gearing, etc. I don't think I would want to go much faster than 30-40 on an older bike like that until it has been gone through. Worn bearings, tires and such could make it hard to ride safely.
