Dirt Squirt

Post by GutterRat »

Which my Squirt is missing several components. It'll end up being alright in the end :). Just going to take a long while. While I wait to decide when to jump into this project (I am currently in a mess with a 1980 yz125) LOL, I need a little guidance. When I took a look at the engine, I noticed that it was loose. I took off the top end and voila......NO PISTON. Not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing. Just a hiccup. Mr Murphy is always hanging around at my house and steps in uninvited to ALL my projects. LOL. Anyway, here is my Drit Squirt. I know its going to be a slow process, but I'll learn alot about my Squirt. I'm going to be asking a lot of questions. Hopefully, this will eventually go in the build section. If I can find it. LOL. Thank you for all your help - Jack

It appears that your bike has a racing heritage. That looks like a Webco (sand cast alloy) cylinder head - a desireable "go fast" modification from back in the day. It might be a good idea to examine the porting, you may have a highly modified cylinder.

PS: We are ALL familiar with the appearances of the fabled "Murphy", so don't feel like the Lone Stranger.

I have started Hodaka restorations with less to work with than this. Looks like that Webco head has chewed up its share of broken rings. Take inventory of what's good and what's missing and start gathering parts. It is tough to stay on task of a big project like this if you have to stop working and hunt for the next part you need. You can divide and conquer by breaking it into categories. Engine and transmission, wheels/spokes and tires, frame and chrome. Every journey starts witht the first step. Enjoy the trip.

Thank you for your guidance in this. I'm sure that I'll be asking a ton of questions. I'm just going to starting hunting up all that I can. I sorta stumbled onto this one. Now it looks like I'm going to head to find a shop manual of some sort for this project. I have Zero clue involving Hodakas or any bike for that matter. Always was quads. So this is new to me. So hopefully I won't annoy anyone with all the newb questions. LOL
