Super Rat motor onto Dirt Squirt?
I have a full complete built motor from a 69 super rat. My neighbor gave me his dirt squirt saying he didn't want it and that he needed it out of his yard. My uncle use to race super rats back in the day but now his bike is disassembled down to the frame and I don't have enough to work with. My buddy's dirt squirt which I believe is a 74 is Locked up and has severe water damage inside ( impossible to get running again). My big question is- will my super rat motor bolt right into my dirt squirt and run ? Please help thank you btw I'm 16 years old so dont make fun of me if I get some stuff wrong

Rylan, you may not know it yet - but you have found just about the most helpful group of vintage motorcycle folks around. And a bunch of them will tickled pink to see that a 16 year old is working on getting a Hodaka running!!!
In answer to your main question, yes the Super Rat engine will bolt right into your Dirt Squirt frame. It would be handy to identify for sure which Dirt Squirt model we are talking about though. Does the damaged Dirt Squirt engine have an alloy cylinder? Or does the engine look almost exactly like your Super Rat engine? There are some differences in the two models of Dirt Squirts - and knowing what you are working with will make it easier for Hodaka folks to help.
Have you surfed around the Strictly Hodaka website or the Hodaka-Parts website yet? Lots of information to be found on those two sites (including Illustrated Parts Lists for the various models - and information to identify which models you are working with).
It's great to have you aboard!

Rylan what is left from the uncles super rat besides the engine. You might get parts to finish it or trade for parts you need. What part of the country are you in if Montana we are here to help. We are glad you are taking this on! ------------Clarence

Re: Super Rat motor onto Dirt Squirt?
Here is the bikes locked up motor with top end off. This bike sat outside for a year with top end off so inside is completely rusted. The super rat motor is on the table. Would like to know if it will work I'm not sure if my uncles super rat was a 93a or 93b but I do have frame of serial number can tell me anything

Re: Super Rat motor onto Dirt Squirt?
By the way, here is the dirt squirt that's receiving the super rat motor.
Re: Super Rat motor onto Dirt Squirt?
The squirt you show without a top end is a late Model 01 Dirt Squirt. It differs from the early squirt in it has primary kick and oil injection. Still no problem, the rat motor will bolt right in. Watch for chain alignment as the 01 engine might be a bit wider and you will need a different carrier for the rear sprocket. Cant remember for sure, but double check the chain is straight when you mock it up. You will need the super rat pipe adapter if its not on the spare engine.

Re: Super Rat motor onto Dirt Squirt?
Sorry here is the picture it did not go through on last reply but here is that bolt I'm talking about.
Re: Super Rat motor onto Dirt Squirt?
You have to unbolt the foot peg mount, with the 17mm on the inside of the frame. and remove it. That bolt will be extracted through a hole in the frame behind the foot peg mount. Victor

Be a good idea to drop the chain also, split it at the master link.

Re: Super Rat motor onto Dirt Squirt?
Thank you Victor ! And yes that's metal shavings I had to drill out the Bolts/screw heads on the motor cause they were locked up and i could break them loose. Most of them I was able to get with wd40 but like 4 off them were not gonna cooperate with anything I did so i had no choice, plus it's been sitting in the rain for a year and the whole motor like is said is rusted inside its nasty. There is a lot of good parts I can still use but everything else is gone.

Re: Super Rat motor onto Dirt Squirt?
Just a bit of advice. Don't throw anything away. You would be absolutely amazed at what some of the folks on this forum can do with a motor that looks like a rusted pile of junk. I know. I run one every day thanks to Hodaka Dave Rozier. Ditto on most other parts. What may seem like junk today may be THE part needed to finish a bike five years from now. Especially true of bikes with more limited runs like the 01 Dirt Squirt. Unless the part is utterly destroyed, douse it with WD-40, oil, grease, or whatever, throw it in a box, and stash it above your garage. Many parts that look like total junk can often be refurbished and some parts are getting mighty scarce.

Looks like you have a slew of motors and parts, be best to separate and catalog the parts for storage. If I was closer I'd help you out, but I'm a ways away. ( upstate NY)

Re: Super Rat motor onto Dirt Squirt?
Sweet parts stash!! After you get the parts sorted out, it is a good idea to do a little preservation work to halt any ongoing corrosion/deterioration. While time consuming, when I score a parts stash, I dismantle, catalog, and clean everything thoroughly. I de-rust everything that is rusted (Evaporust works very well for this) then give everything a coating of WD-40, oil, or grease prior to storage. Its great seeing a young man getting into preserving, building, and riding these awesome machines. A lifetime of fun awaits!!
