Hello All: New to Forum & Hodaka

Post by GutterRat »

Hello Forum. I'm new to Hodaka and found a solid project, minus a few things (tank). LOL. Anyway. Here's my questions. First off, I need to know what I have. My frame number is E06119. I'm thinking that its a Dirt Squirt yet, not 100% if Model 92 or Model 96. Any help or guidance would be appreciated. Also, which is the best manual to use once I take on this restoration? Thank you for the help - Jack

Great find. That's a chrome tank Dirt Squirt. Same tank as the Combat Wombat, so finding that that might be your biggest challenge. Rest of the parts are very common with other bikes in the family. The chrome tank squirt with the red frame was one of Hodakas best looking bikes. Enjoy building and riding it. Lots of help available here.

I think this should say 92C and 96 are essentially the same.

Hey GutterRat, here is my 1973 Dirt Squirt. I never quite figured out myself what the deal is with model 96 or 92C. I don't know why it just wasn't one or the other. Oh well....

Thank you all for the welcome. Its much appreciated it. Yes, I was looking around I researched it and theres something about the looks of the Hodakas........and I agree, I have a feeling that there will be more than one by the end of the summer. LOL. I'm looking forward to getting started on it. Thats for sure. However, what is the best service manual for the Dirt Squirt, and other Hodakas? Have a great day.

Shop manuals were not created for all models, but the Wombat, Combat Wombat manual will serve you well for your Dirt Squirt as well as others. Here is one place to obtain one.

As already mentioned, the Wombat / Combat Wombat workshop manual will be helpful, especially on the frame, etc. The Dirt Squirt frame is the same as a Wombat frame except the swingarm is a little shorter and the Dirt Squirt used 19" front and 17" rear wheels (Wombat used 21" front and 18" rear wheel). The engines are very similar except for the top end (cylinder, piston, head, crankshaft carb and pipe). The Dirt Squirt engine is more like an Ace 100 engine, so you might want to get a shop manual for the Ace 100 / Super Rat as well as the specifications for the engine will be correct for your engine.

Either shop manual will serve you fine and then refer to the specifications listing for your specific model. The specs can be found online at either Strictly Hodaka or Hodaka-Parts.

After looking at my Dirt Squirt. The top end was loose, so I took it off and guess what I found.......well, what I DIDN'T FIND. No piston. So now I'll need to look for a piston, however, the cylinder will need to be honed or bored. The gift that keeps on giving. At least I have a couple other projects ahead of this one. LOL. Oh well........Mr. Murphy is ALWAYS hanging around me. LOL

Welcome to the asylum! These bikes will multiply in your garage seemingly all by themselves. I started with 1 about 5 years ago,now we have 6 in various stages of finish!

I'm very novice to the MX world. All I've ever owned and operated have been Utility ATVs. LOL. I'm probably going to begin disassembly this weekend on this once I get my manual ordered. I don't know much about Webco. I'm looking at this bike as a parade and vintage racing bike. As most of you have said, they multiply in a garage. Well, I'm thinking that is what is about to happen. LOL. I'm just glad the wife has me on a budget......At least that'll keep me out of the dog house. Might still be in the pen.....but not the doghouse. LOL
