Wombat stator interchange

Post by cuzncletus »

Upon removing the stator cover from my 73 Wombat, I found the flywheel/stator area caked with red clay. A small fracture in the case had allowed the slime to get all up inside the engine, no doubt causing the bike's demise 40 years ago.

The stator plate, points, and surrounding areas are badly rusted. Since this is going back together as a trials bike, I assume I'm not going to need all three coils. What other stator/ignition plates will interchange?

Might want to look into a after market unit with a heavy flywheel for trials work. Or find another Wombat unit.

The stator assembly frame is aluminum and will clean up nicely. As for the coils, you will only need the exciting coil if you don't plan to run any lights. However, you will want to have the other two coils physically in place. This can just be the cores without any wiring. The 95 Combat Wombat used a blank core (953013).

If you are looking to just replace the whole thing, the same stator frame, exciting coil and points were used on models 94, 94A, 95, 99, 01, 02 and 03. The lighting coils were unique to the 94 and 94A Wombats.
