Seat pans

There always seems to be confusion when talking about the seats used by the different models of Hodaka. For reference, I took some photos and measurements of several pans that I have on hand.

First, I "believe" that there are 4 different pans utilized by the 100's and 125's.

1. Part number 90xxxx Ace 90 and model 92 Ace 100
2. Part number 93xxxx Chrome tank Super Rat and Ace100 B and B+
3. Part number 94xxxx Chrome tank Wombat, Combat Wombat and Dirt Squirt
4. Part number 97xxxx Painted tank Road Toads, Dirt Squirt, Super Rat, Super Combat and 03 Wombat.

Thank you Dale, that needs to be put in the resonator and if some can do the same type of measurements and pictures add the rat pans, 93 and 83a and the blue frame model as well dirt squart, and others 175--250 etc.,, in the end we should then better determine just exactly how many diff pans where used and what frames they fit. Instead of guessing. Great job. Bruce

I think my post does cover the painted tank Dirt Squirt and the blue framed Super Rat and Super Combat. All three would use the 97xxxx pan.

The only example that I don't have, for the 100's and 125's, is the 93xxxx used on the 100B, 100B+ and chrome tank Super Rats.

Thanks again Dale, I missed those in your shots, please can anyone out there with the missing models mention take some measurements and pictures of said pan like Dale did and send them to this post. It won,t take long and will all will have a complete understanding of pans for Hodaka, this info is of value to all the Hodaka World. "next project shouldd be pipes for each bike with detailed pictures and spark aresistor model info as well. Lots of miss info there as well.

Update to provide seat (SADDLE) part numbers for the various Hodaka models:
I am pretty sure that this list will require additional tweaking...
I also believe that the foam shape did vary between models that were using the same seat pans. Chrome tank Super Rat perhaps? Did the Super Combat have the same foam as a Road Toad? If anyone has additional information to add to this listing, please speak up.

I think I can help clarify. For the purposes of this post, I would like to make the distinction that when I refer to a pan, it is a seat pan without the mounting hardware. You'll see why very soon.

For part numbers 909022 and 939022, the only difference is the mounting hardware. The pans themselves are identical. For example:

909022: See Dale's picture above.
939022: Notice the rear mounting tabs. The front mount is missing in the photo but is the same on both 909022 and 939022. (picture stolen from eBay. I'll replace it with one of my own when I get it)

Similarly with part #'s 949022 and 979022, I believe the 979022 part has the longer rear lip and the 949022 has the short lip. And there is apparently slight differences in length of the rear mounting tabs. The more I look at Dale's photo's the more I am convinced that this is true.

So I would make the conjecture that:

1. The 909022 and 939022 pans are identical. The part number change refers to the change in mounting hardware.
2. The 949022 seatpan is a new style for 92C/96, 94, 94A, and 95.
3. The 979022 seatpan modifies the 949022 pan with a longer lip in the rear and longer rear mounting tabs.

To Summarize: for the 125cc and smaller bikes, there are 3 distinct pan styles and 4 styles mounting hardware.

Good stuff Roger. Thanks. It looks like my list should have an additional column to note the pan style vs mounting hardware. And then another column to list any foam differences between models that utilize the same pan. The different foam shapes is only an assumption on my part... I will keep updating my list as details are obtained.

One other little tidbit is the seat on the 175cc Model 61 had a very cool feature in a set of spring loaded pull buttons to release the seat. Made checking the oil injection or servicing the battery easier. It was one of the later ideas Hodaka developed that really made sense.

Dale, you are right about the model 94, 95, and 96 having different foam than the model 97, 98, and 99. The later models have a flatter, slightly thicker foam and of course the seat cover is different as well.

Here is a bit of narrative which supports the concept that the seat pans (and mounting hardware) are probably exactly the same for the Model 94, 95 and 96(Chrome tank Dirt Squirt). Those 3 models have EXACTLY the same frames (though the 94 frames have some extra little brackets to meet the needs of being street legal).

We also know that the later seat pan (979022) will fit just fine on the models 94, 95 and 96 as long as you add support under the pan as was provided on the models that utilized the 979022 seat pan. The 949022 seat pan will work on the later models if you add 3/4" to the rear mount.

I am still not clear on any possible differences in foam shape between models that were supplied with the same seat pan.

So far, in my experiences and observations, yes, for all of the above. In one of the Bike Videos from Strictly Hodaka, Paul indicates that a true Saddle was finally used on the Ace100B. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvzvoF_B0Rg

Yes, it is my belief that either seat pan will work but if you have a 909022 pan then the rear mounting tabs would have to be reworked to fit the 93A frame. The model 90 pan has threaded studs whereas the model 93 has tabs. It would take a bit of fabrication.
