Alleghany National Forest Trail Ride 2017

Post by RichardMott »

The “East Coast Hodaka Junk Yard Association”(not an official organization) Allegheny National Forest Trail Ride is only 2 weeks away. This will be our 8th year having this event. The date this year is September 9th at the Allegheny National Forest near Marienville Pa. If you put this on your schedule now, you will be in line for a most pleasant experience this late summer on some of the coolest trails around. It is not a difficult ride. No creek crossings. The trails are used in the winter by snowmobiles, so they have bridges. The hills that might normally erode are tiled with pavers.

You do not need a Hodaka to ride. The cost is $10 to register the bike. This is paid to the ANF. For the Saturday trail ride our dirt bike does not need to be street legal. Just your ID and a VIN number are required. Check the website in the next post for any other restrictions.

For those arriving,
The closest motel is the Monroe Heights Hotel in Marienville. Nice place. Formally this was a Microtel. Phone: 1-814-927-8300

There are camping areas that are adjacent to the trails. It has rooms as well. 2 riders stayed there last year. You can get your passes there too.

The Forest Lodge & Camp Ground, 6 miles north of Marienville on SR 66
44078 Route 66 , Marienville, PA 16239

From Mike Perrett, our Pension Fund Manager:
The road ride will start on Friday, September 8th at 3 p.m. at the Monroe Heights Motel in Marienville, Pa. All motorcycles must be street legal. The ride will be approximately 2 1/2 hours long, without counting two scheduled stops. One stop will be at a convenience store about 23 miles into the run. The POW site will be a few miles later. Total ride length will be 60 miles. Top speed will be about 45 mph, with the average speed about 25 mph. The majority of the roads will be National Forest roads, both paved and gravel. The use of state highways is kept at a minimum. A head count of those attending would be appreciated. If it is raining, I will be in the Super Secret Hodaka Research and Meditation Center reading the Resonator Revisited.

Sounds like a nice ride. Too bad it's so far away. But that does not preclude showing up some day, anyway...

Man! I wish I wasn't so far away! That's at lest a 2 hard day's drive from here, bringing the bike on the truck!

Is there anyriding events like this in the NM/AZ/CO/TX area? A 6-8 hour drive wouldn't be too bad. Victor

Rick found a riding area and took on planning an annual get together to go ride with friends in a friendly atmosphere. I would imagine if there are areas open to riding in the SW, you could put together a similar event.

If anyone is going to attend the Friday or Saturday ride, let me know. There may be a change in schedule due to the weather. Let me know by Thursday evening.

That's right! Hurricane Irma is going to change things a lot. Fortunately, Alabama will be on the west side of the storm which will pull dry continental air in on us, so we will have nice Fallish weather.

Best wishes for you East Coasters!!

The ride on the street is tomorrow. Irma will not be here in the Northeast for another week. Someone needs to look at the weather channel or their calendar.

The weather channel says Indiana and Ohio may be in the future path of the storm. Could be an interesting couple of weeks.

Yes! Irma will still have enough energy to chew up the Heartland.

As Jake Sites mentioned, all went well for the ANF ride weekend. At the conclusion of the weekend, there was our annual " Dipstick of the Year" award presentation. This award is presented to the Hodaka rider who expresses the noble qualities of modesty in winning (at least at first), undying allegiance to the Hodaka brand and willing to risk life and limb in the pursuit of Hodaka fame and fortune. The recipient of this award is allowed to choose from two aluminum billet dipsticks or in the case of 175/250 models, aluminum plugs.
This years award goes to Jake Sites. Congratulations Jake
