Rear shock spring on super rat

Hello, first time forum user.I am trying to get the springs off on the rear shocks on my super rat.I have the spring compressed but i can't see how the the spring come apart from the rest of the shock. I would appreciate some information. Thank you wooden shoe

You didn't mention if you have the model 93 or 98 Rat.
If you have the chrome /steel body shocks: sorry, they can not be taken apart.
The aluminum body shocks from the 98 have a slot in the retention ring that slides out to remove the spring and service the shock.

Yes they can be taken apart. You need to punch out the pin on the top eye of the shock, then compress the spring down enough to get a vise grip with rubber to protect the shaft and screw of the top eye.

Though it is of note that after you drive out the pin and carefully unscrew the upper shock eye from the shock shaft . . . you know have the shock disassembled as far as it can be broken down. The shock bodies are not rebuildable.
