Rear Red reflectors???
Rear Red reflectors???
I know there are amber reflectors on either side of the RT headlight. But, are there any rear Red reflectors? The only photo reference I have is the restored Roaf Toad on the Strictly Hodaka page when you click on the Model 99 parts list. (SE attached) But, not all of the rear fender & tail light assembly can be seen. And I don't find either set on the micro fiche. So, are there any Red reflectors for the rear of the bike? Victor

Re: Rear Red reflectors???
Hi Victor. My Road Toad has amber reflectors in the rear position. They mount to the small holes just under and in front of the larger circular opening on the chrome side mounting bracket of the gear rack. I wonder it reflectors here were optional - both in terms of presence and color. Incidentally, my M94 has red reflectors in the same mounting position.

Re: Rear Red reflectors???
My 76 Road Toad has amber reflectors on the sides of the headlight like the photo above. No reflectors at the back but my luggage rack has the holes for mounting, same location as Matt mentioned. Not sure what the requirements are up here for motorcycle side reflectors, my bike isn't plated or registered.
Re: Rear Red reflectors???
Dunno about other states, but Utah law dictates that reflectors in the rear and rear sides are red, all others are amber, for ALL vehicles that operate on Utah Roads.

Interesting, Roger. That arrangement would allow instant recognition of the direction of travel similar to the red/green bow, white stern arrangement of running lights on a boat. Smart.
Re: Rear Red reflectors???
Those amber/red running lights (recognition lights) that Roger mentions are Federally mandated since the early 70's. Amber front, Red rear lights. With the exceptions are that White Daytime Running Lights may be used in front and Amber turn signals may be used in the rear. Brake lights must be Red.

Re: Rear Red reflectors???
Forgive my ignorance here, Bill but I'm not following you. When you are talking about "recognition lights", are you referring to the side-mounted reflectors or were there actually electrically operated lights involved.
Re: Rear Red reflectors???
Found some generic, nut/bolt mounted on eBay for $4.95. They should fit right into the smaller hole and attach with a nut & lock washer! Thanks guys! Victor

Both, Matt. They are amber and red lights, plus amber and red reflectors.

Cool, Bill. That would look sweet at night. Thanks for straightening me out on that.
Re: Rear Red reflectors???
I did something similar with my big SUZUKI VL1500. It had 1057 amber front running/signal lights & Amber 1056 turn signal only rears. I bought a set of front turn signal light assemblies and mounted them on the rear of the bike. Wired the running light circuit into the tail light running light wiring.
Then I used a little bit of Testors Transparent Red (model spray paint) to put 2 light coats in the inside of the lenses.
The paint dried and was on the inside surface so it's protected & wont crack or chop or fade (unless the lens gets broken) and I now have red rear turn signal running lights. Victor
