Carb Top Cap Gasket

Post by go_hercules »

My Dirt Squirt carb top that screws on the top of the carb (called the mixing chamber cap in the parts list) has no gasket. There is not one shown on the parts list. But I thought there was supposed to be one there. Does anyone know for sure. By the way, looking at a parts list for a modern VM20 carb, they show a gasket there. Thanks.

You can buy that gasket separate. They come with the cap if you can find one

The Dirt Squirt cab has the top cap that is like a ring that fits over a disc shaped top piece. So if it had a gasket I would have thought it would show as a separate piece. Just want to know for sure.

I don't remember a gasket at that location on the toaster tank squirt carb. But that is a far from definitive sort of comment, since it has been almost 40 years since I've worked on a stock toaster tank squirt carb.

Take look at the parts book drawing at Simply Hodaka. If one was used it will be shown.

Looking at the Illustrated Parts Lists is in the 99.9% percent sure way to go . . . but, I know the parts lists don't show the seal retainer snap rings in the fork sliders for the 03 Wombat. go-Hercules is looking for confirmation from Squirt owners that no gasket is indeed correct I think.

Right Ed, just trying to make sure. The parts list doesn't show one so I guess it probably did not have one.

Confirmation. Three out of three toaster tank Dirt Squirts prefer NO GASKET in the mixing chamber cap. On the Squirt carb as opposed to other Mikuni mixing chamber caps, the Squirt's is a two-part affair with a "lid" that is held down with a ring that threads onto the mixing chamber. This configuration is necessary for allowing removal of the slide for needle clip adjustments without twisting the throttle cable (which enters the cap off-axis on the Squirt carb as opposed to the central placement of the throttle cable on the one piece Mikuni mixing chamber caps).

Thanks very much for checking that out. I really appreciate it. You actually own three Dirt Squirts? Sounds like quite a fleet !!!!!

Do you have the rubber top cap or do you need one. I have a few in my carb parts tackle box. If you have a VM20 carb & need one I can likely mail one to you but would have to look to confirm. Just let me know! Victor

Actually, I just scored a 4th Squirt. I needed four to hold up the corners of the tarp my wife is making me live under out in the back yard :-). Short money and a good start for a rider. $400 and came with a spare fresh first overbore cylinder and piston. I couldn't refuse. I'm thinking about turning it into a sleeper.

Hi Victor. My rubber top cap is in place so I am good there. Thanks for the offer.

Matt, my wife said "either the bikes go or I go". I sure am going to miss her.

OK! Glad you're getting it worked out!

Matt. If you want you can live in my garage with my 4 Hodaka, 2 Suzukis & the mini KTM! Bring your 4 and we'll just need one more for an even dozen...unless I get that Thunderdog! Victor

Hey guys, I had a question about an old Honda Elsinore that I have. Not a Hodaka but you guys could probably help me with it. When I set the air screw for the highest idle, the engine hesitates when I blip the throttle. So I can turn the air screw in to richen it up and get rid of the hesitation. But I end up going from about 1 1/2 turns out (highest idle) to about 1/2 turn out (best response). Why in the world are these two adjustments so far off. I thought setting for the highest idle should get you very close on the air screw adjustment. I don't get it.
