I would like to hear more tips n tricks from Mike as to how to keep the top end from seizing and/or melting down. E.g., has he swapped the stock CDI for a Super Combat unit, a cooler plug, etc.?
On my 250SL I'm using a Texas-sized head gasket that also functions like an extra cooling fin, one range cooler plug (B9...), a notch richer on the needle jet,94 octane non-ethanol fuel,torque-grooved the combustion chamber, and a Wiseco piston. Every bit helps, but I when on the highway I still ride with my fingers on the clutch lever -- just in case the piston welds itself to the cylinder.

Darrell,
I think one of the biggest improvements was the new head that gives it better cooling. He has changed the timing a bit, but go back and look at the modifications. He could better explain it to you than I could.

Mike's ride is at an end, I dropped him off at his place in PA yesterday afternoon (3:15).

At an end? Ha! I'll bet it continues.
