100 cc late models

Post by olddogs »

Need a quick refresher on reed valve 100 cc Hodaka engines. Same 50 mm bore as the Ace, but what pistons will work. Only the 99, 01 or 02 pistons?? What about the model 98 piston? Rings?? Lots of experience with 125s, but not so much with the late model 100s.

A model 93 piston with holes cut for reed operation will work.

Thanks. I must have been thinking since the reed valve wombat piston wont interchange with the piston port Wombat, neither would the 100cc engine. This makes things easier.

The wrist pin and height from pin center to piston crown have to be consistent with the rod and cylinder you have, but otherwise any piston that will work for a piston port engine will also work with reeds. You only need to modify the piston which isn't hard to do.

Which engine are you working with? Are you doing a conversion to reed?

Restoring an 01 Dirt Squirt. Has about 7 thousands wear and would like to bring it back to life. Have some NOS 93 oversize pistons and can use the old one to give me hole dimensions. Wasn't sure about pin location, but it sounds like I am all set.
