Engine ID
Engine ID
I have a Hodaka engine minus the piston, head and cylinder. There is no sign of an engine number and no evidence that it ever had one. The left cover is missing but clutch side cover is there. It seems to be a 5 speed and has the ignition of a 100 (not the 90 with internal coil). Were any engines produced with NO number?

Re: Engine ID
The serial number will be found on the front of the right half of the engine crank case.

Re: Engine ID
Every new engine I purchased was blank. I could stamp it to correspond to the frame # title.-----Clarence

No number at all in the normal place and it doesn't appear to have been filed off. I have purchased "E" motors in the day but they were numbered. This must be like Clarence described...

That's a cool fun fact I was not aware of previously, Clarence. Thank you.

Re: Engine ID
I'm surprised by that comment Clarence. I thought all complete engines got a factory serial number. Engines built up out of replacement cases were a different story . . .

Re: Engine ID
I purchased a new set of Ace 100 engine cases back in the day, no serial number.

Re: Engine ID
Mike that is what I'd expect. Cases? No serial number. Complete factory built engine? I thought they all had serial numbers.
