Model 96 Dirt Squirt Air Box?

Post by viclioce »

Asking to help Zeek! He has 2 air cleaner covers for his Squirt. Both covers appear to have the graphics hand painted on! Did they do this with all the Model 96 air boxes or does he just have a couple of flukes which someone redid by hand? I know Paul sells the graphics now, but just curious if hand painting is the factory original way?!?! Thanks!

On every original air box I've seen, whether it be a Super Rat or Dirt Squirt, the graphics are painted, as in silk screen. If decals were substituted later in the production runs, I am not aware. In these photos, where you can see that the "Squirt" is silk screened, the "Dirt" in these photos has been re-touched.

Thanks Victor.
So it seems someone creative person from the past has re-painted both these boxes.
I had intended to get mine painted again, but sounds like the decal is the go then.
