PABATCO Snuff or Not's

Post by motovate »

On another Forum for Honda CL 250/305's there was a discussion about Snuff or Nots from the "60's". ) one guy said he had 6 packs of Snuff or Nots made/sold by PABATCO.

Any of you fellows from the Mother Ship remember Hodaka making them????? :o

"Snuffer-nuts", as we called them. Remember them well. Were they a PABATCO product? Didn't recall that!

Yes - a surprise but definitely a clear PABATCO reference - also a little bit of a surprise to me was several other people jumped in with a couple of photos of cards with snuff or nots they still had. I used to see lots of them on straight pipe Hondas, Triumps, BSA's!!

I still have one or two. I do not remember them being a PABATCO product. Mine worked very well for me.------Clarence

Max it's Chewing tobacco.
No Max no it goes in the exhaust at the end of a straight pipe. So lets see, you drill a hole at the end of the exhaust pipe, and you stick the unit in the hole. It looks like a butterfly on a old carburetor, it has a shaft that fits through the hole you drilled and you fit a knob on it. when turned to the closed position it restricts some and muffles the sharp tone. I will draw you a picture. Max did you see the last old man going north? I will go and see if I can find one and take a picture . 3 minutes just lucky.

Snuff-or-Not's creator Allan Lader was from Oregon, but his company that he co-owned with his brother was Pacifico not Pabatco. You can find anything on the internet! 8-) http://www.cycleworld.com/2011/03/24/to ... l-thompson

Ah Yes - Close but no Cigar. Very interesting write up. Being a child of the 60's and into motorcycles starting in the mid 50's I knew about snuff or nots and even had a CL 250 for a short time ( like a lot of other bikes and cars I had - wish I'd kept it). I was so surprised to see the PABATCO reference I didn't even think of doing a web search.

Here I thought maybe Hodaka had another "First". :D

My first bike was a '67 Honda 305 Scrambler and the very first thing I did was remove the muffler and install a pair of Snuff-or-Nots. Now I have just purchased a '66 305 which still has the muffler on it. So I'm scrambling for another set of snuff-or-nots. I don't need "still in the original package" $85 snuffers. Just a functional pair of used one's work for me. Anyone out there got a pair?

We do something similar, which we call “lollipops!” We use them on big bore cruisers with aftermarket exhaust to create needed back pressure! Simple to make out of eye bolts & washers. And you can control their effectiveness by spinning the angle at which they deflect. :ugeek: Victor
