How to remove clutch?

Post by kurtpenn »

I've got a Hodaka Road Toad that I need to remove the clutch from for disassembly. Is there a special method or tool to do this? If a special tool is needed, where can I get one?

Thanks!

Go to the Strictly Hodaka main page thence to the "tools, oils, lubes" section of the "products" drop down menu. Look for the clutch/flywheel holding tool (part # 909523). They are $37.95. This tool is also required for removal of the primary gear from the transmission main shaft. Remember, the clutch holding nut is "righty loosey, lefty tighty" (left-hand threaded). I found that out the hard way :-)

Go Matt! Go Matt! Go Matt!

I bought one of these on eBay years ago for $17. They are made like vise grips & work very well for holding clutch baskets, main gears and lots of other things! :D Victor

I must say you can remove the clutch with a gloved hand and a small impact wrench. You will need to hold it while torquing it back on. You don't need to hold the clutch but anything connected to it such as the flywheel with maybe an oil filter strap type wrench. Innovation is the word here but the clutch/flywheel tool is the way to go.

. . . and I think it is somewhat easier to remember this . . . the clutch nut is the ONLY "left hand" nut on the entire machine. (Yes, I know it has been mentioned . . . but it was moooshed in with a restatement of an old rule . . . )
