Bike Support/Stand

Post by JackM »

Hello - New member here and new to Hodakas. What type/brand bike stand do you use for a Super Rat model 98 (with down pipe and no kick stand)?

Welcome Jack,

I did a search on ebay motorcycles under vintage bike stand and came up with this. There might not be much else available for a vintage down piped bike.
The other alternative is to build one.Its still in the prototype stage :D
I noticed that my pics got flip flopped when I previewed my post, but I am pretty sure you will be able to tell which one is on ebay.

Thanks for the pics. I saw somewhere that Hodaka used to make a triangle type side stand to fit the rear wheel and wonder which if any modern triangle stands would work/fit.

Do you not have a side kickstand? I thought folks only used them for actual racing bikes to keep them out of the way. :D Victor

Socalhodaka, that's what I'm talking about, right there, if they're still available, or an aftermarket one that is similar. I'll check Paul's site. Thanks.

Jack. I didn't know if you didn't have one or if was taken off. I was going to offer you one if you wanted a traditional kickstand. Victor

Victor. I wasn't sure if this bike (model 88) when I got it last week, was supposed to have a kickstand attached or not. I couldn't find where one was supposed to mount, so just figured there wasn't one. Thanks for your offer, anyway. Jack

Yep, I got a couple of them from Hodaka Dave. They are really well-made. The one for the Super Rat is even powder coated red. Remember, if you want to race, you'll need something as I don't remember a track that allows a side stand on a race bike and if your down pipe hangs anywhere below the frame, you won't be able to borrow my Hometown Dairy plastic milk crate.

Matt, I won't be needing to borrow your milk crate, lol. My riding days are pretty much over, sad to say, except for taking a put put ride to the mail box on one of my bikes once in a while. I'm old and retired and just like to bring some of these old bikes back to life. If I could figure out how to post pics on this site, I'd like to show some of the Hodaka I'm working on and some of the ones I've done. BTW, I contacted Dave and he doesn't have any stands right now, but he still makes them. Thanks, Jack

Speaking for the family, we'd love to see them and hear their stories. For me as well, there's more in the rear view mirror than on the road ahead, but these bikes are a time machine for me and the most tangible bridge to my youth.
