Can a stock Combat Wombat ignition system with both the lighting coil blanks missing generate spark? Previous owner said bike had been running, but now it has no spark. Could it have run without them?

What purpose do the solid blanks serve. If they are required, would 2 old Wombat lighting coils work as substitutes.

That's the way it's supposed to be, two blanks on the CW.

Ah, but the original message reports that the blanks are missing.

Effects of the blanks (or coils) missing are quite minor (possibly negligible . . . but not zero). Installing the blanks or Wombat lighting coils will restore "control" of magnetic flux in the 2/3rds of the magneto "circle" which are currently "un-controlled". A readily identifiable effect will be to restore symmetric magnetic forces acting to "move" the crankshaft off-center - a relatively minor thing (but again, not zero).

Long story short, the missing blanks are not causing the spark to be AWOL - something else is causing that.

Also, be sure to check the integrity of the kill switch. Detach it entirely from the ignition when you check for spark. Wouldn't it be cool if the problem was that simple?
