Quick Question

Post by viclioce »

I put my kick start lever on and noticed I can not move the motor through a cycle with the lever.

The piston moves freely by rotating the fly wheel. So I'm assuming it's something in the tranny not working right. Any suggestions as to what I should look for first? I figure I'll have to split the cases again and look for something which fell out of place. The kick start won't move at all. Hoping it's something like a kickshaft roller bearing came loose and is causing the rest of the tranny to not move?

Suggestions, PLEASE?!?! And Thanks!!! ; D Victor

This is one of the reasons you have to check and make sure every shaft rotates as you assemble a motor.

I like to make sure every shaft has a little side play. Many times they the shafts will turn until you tighten the cases. We have all been there done that. ------Clarence

Well, Clarence. Everything was moving smoothly in the tranny befor I closed it up. I'll be splitting it as soon as it warms up a bit, but too cold in the garage with no heat! I'm spending my free time skiing right now and teaching with our Adaptive Ski Program! ; D Victor

Sounds like you need one of those little Popeye stoves. -------------Clarence

Yeah, but I think that would be a fire hazard in an all wood garage. Plus, I'd have to go thru the homeowners association for permission! Good thing I'm president of the board & chairman of the architectural styles committee! LOL! ; D Victor

Make sure the shoulders on your countershaft gears are positioned the correct way. I don't know what motor you are working on, but on the earlier Hodakas you have to make sure the high portions of the gear shoulders were facing up as you put them back onto the countershaft. If not, the transmission would lock up.

I thought it was always shoulders to the left side? Well I guess we just said the same thing. Pretty sure that's the way I went, but I'll double check to be sure! Thanks! ; D Victor
