Wiring Question

Post by Rusty »

Hello and Happy New year. I'm back at my project. Slow and steady. Had to borrow a torque wrench for my clutch side. I should of taken a pic it was a laughingly large 1/2 inch drive. The click was so inaudible I missed it the first time. Anyways I mounted the bottom end to start on wiring and mounting everyone I have to find out what I don't have until I ponder the top end.

I bought this new harness years ago from Paul or eBay can't remember. I've noticed that the tail light has a blue, brown and red wire but on the schematic there are only red and blue and the tail light grounds to the fender. Any insight??
Sorry took me awhile to get there.

Take care

About which model Hodaka are you inquiring? Ace? Wombat? Road Toad? Dirt Squirt? It would help to know for accuracy. ; D Victor

Here's a thought. Blue is probably the ground and you can verify that by looking at the back of the light and the light mount. Some lights are rubber mounted so there is a seperate ground wire that can go back to the battery or to another good ground. Then one of the red or brown wires is the stop light and the other is the running light. You can find that out by hooking the blue to the ground side of a 6Volt battery and then touching the other wires one at a time to the hot side of the battery. The brighter side is the stop light and the dimmer side is the running light. If you don't have a bulb or a 6 volt battery you can stick a 12V bulb into the socket and use a 12V battery to check. Always works unless the wires are broken internally.

OK. Looking at my Road Toad diagram, blue is grounded to the blue wire coming off the ignition switch. Brown is the running light and red is the brake light connecting to the rear brake switch. Hope this helps. ; D Victor

The Ace is a two wire tail light. Do you need an Ace light, or do you have a different harness? The Ace light looks like this, unless you have an older, early 90. ; D Victor
