Skid Plates

I'm wanting fit a skid plate to my Wombat94. I see that the Wombat03 has a factory skid plate that could be mounted on my '94. Are there any Hodaka skid plates from other models, or aftermarket plates that will work?

Hey Bill, you might consider building one. Mine had to also protect my exhaust but it was just a pattern that I took to the local metal fab shop. Total cost was about $40. A friend did the bending and I used hole saws to ventilate it. It bolts directly to the footpeg plate. More on the Day One Project.

You would only need one bend and the front bracket wouldn't have to be that complex or might not be needed at all. Here's another shot showing the mounting.

But I am at a point where it is easier to spend the $$ for something turnkey and devote my time elsewhere. What later Hodaka skid plates will easily fit my -94. or are current aftermarket plates available?

I think the Road Toads, 99 & 02, the 03 Wombat and the Model 01 Squirt all use the same plate!

That is what I thought. I will have the engine out the Winter and I can weld in mounting tabs if I can't get a 100% bolt-on.

This one was made from a piece of aluminum diamond plate. Used a saws all lubing the blade with liquid dish soap. I made a cardboard template first.
Bend it is a bench vise until it fit. I used conduit clips to hold it in place.

Found this on a Super Rat I rescued from the crusher:

I've seen a couple of them identical that make me think it was an aftermarket part. Connects over the crossmember in front of the footpegs and with u-bolts to the forward crosstube that has the engine mount tabs. It's about 3/16" aluminum. Fits my Wombat fine but collects a lot of mud/dirt. I could trace a pattern for you if you're interested.

That looks close. I'm not looking for something bash-proof, but to smooth up the bottomside to slide over logs, etc. I like the way that one mounts. No need to trace it for me, i can freehand it.

That is a webco item from the 60's. they work very well and are wide enough to protect the engine. Clarence
