Sealing Combat Wombat air box

Good morning, Hodakaphiles, I've been checking SH and HPI for about a year now and have not been able to score the rubber gasket used to seal the CW air box. I'm not sure if they will ever be reproduced again. What alternatives have been used to secure a good seal between the air box and cover plate? Also, how important is it to fenestrate the inner cover plate for better aspiration? Thanks!!

If you can't find anything else, I would see if you can find rubber gasket material in strips or sheets and cut one to fit. If you can't cut one continuous gasket, you could glue it together with RTV cement.

Another alternative would be to lay out a bead of silicone on a stiff plastic sheet and flatten it a bit and let dry. You should be able to peel the silicone off the plastic and have a continuous gasket to fit. I'd used a marker to draw it out on the plastic as a guide.

Hey, that looks slick! Where did you get that? I tried some self-adhesive weatherstrip material previously but it was too thick to get the air box closed. That looks ribbon-thin and dense. Thank you!

I had some laying around the garage left over from sealing around a door frame a door a few years ago and tried it and it seems to work well on the airbox cover. If believe I got it a Lowe's. They have all different widths and thicknesses and density ...I looked for the package to get the dimensions but i cant find it..

I used screen spline (for holding a screen in place in a door) held in place with RTV silicone sealant. It comes in many diameters and is very flexible. It worked great for making a gasket for my model 99 Road Toad's air box cover.

That looks great, and more like the original gasket in that it is grooved to encase the outside rim of the air box. I'll check it out. Thanks!!
