Hodaka Decals

Post by viclioce »

Has anyone purchased & used the Hodaka decals on a tank? I'd like to see a picture of it if anyone has. Trying to decide if it's worth the $20 savings over the plastic emblems. So if you have a photo and/or comments about them let me know. ; D Victor

Which one? Is it the "part#logodecal" one? I've been looking for a helmet decal about that size

If you zoom in on the tank it had decals on it, they were there for the last 16 years. The bike was in storage.

Let me slip a decal/paint questipn in. Like Victor's Red Toad, I'm doing a custom red air cleaner covet to give a bit of a color accent on my Wombat 94. I'm using DupliColor red paint and DupliColor Clear Coat, and a Strictly Hodaka 2-color (red on white) Wombat 94 decal. I don't do clear coat plus decals that much. Would I paint the piece, apply the decal and then clear coat over it, or would the solvents in the clear coat affect the SH decal? I could apply the paint and clear and after that dries, apply the decal. But this wpuld leve the decal unprotected by the clear coat. Which way would be best?

Bill. If it's a plastic/vynal decal you can spray the clear right over it without issue. To make it easier to get the decal exactly where you want it, mix a tablespoon of dish soap ( I use Dawn) with 8 ounces of water an place it in a spray bottle which can be adjusted for fine spray. I used the one my eye glass cleaner comes in.

Lightly spray the area where the decal is to be attached. Put the decal in place on top of the soap/water droplets and fine tune your position. Then press it down and squeegee out the water from underneath. Use a lint free micro fiber rag to press the water out and secure the decal. Just don't press hard & work from one side across in the same direction until all the soap/water bubbles are out. Then let it dry well before clearing.

When I put clear coat on I usually build up 7 to 8 layers of clear. When there's no decals I wet sand with 1500 grit and then polish with a buffer $ 3M polishing compound.

But with decals under I don't wet sand & buff. I just clear and get it as smooth as I can during the spray process. ; D Victor

I did this one the exact same way. Just don't over spray so it doesn't puddle and run! ; D Victor
