Nice. I'm adapting a Preston Petty nuber plate to my Wombat 94 headlight. It'll give a little more protection for the cables and gauges on the bars. And it is a Preston Petty part.

Have we heard anything about the Preston Petty/Ascerbis LED headlight? One Winter project will be to adapt some 12v LED bulbs to 6v.

But where's the 03 Wombat? Is that a Model 94/94A or is there a Model 03 hiding under that chrome tank? Just curious! Nice looking bike tho! I do see a double throttle cable and what looks more like a Model 03 motor in there! So I guess the tank was fooling me a bit! And what's that pipe on there? ; D Victor

Guessing a Torque Engineering chamber. Cool bike. Model 03 morphed into a 94 "sleeper". Now how to disguise the reed cage?

Yes it started as a red 03, but I really like the chrome tank 94 and wanted to keep the oil injection for ease. Torque Engineering pipe for s Yamaha, Honda Seat,Akron rims, hub and fork lowers burnished and now the new light.

Great scoot. I bet it rips. I have a Torque Engineering open chamber on a reeded '72 Super Rat that Hodaka Dave modded for high right-side mount. The bike screams - literally and figuratively. Half the people I ride with love it. The other half want to shoot it. It won't pass tech most places. As I recall, your pipe/spark arrestor/silencer came as a unit. True, or is that your mod?

Excellent. They made great performance pipes. My Rat is so totally dialed I hate the thought of changing really anything on it. Unfortunately in these kinder, gentler, touchier, feelier times, an open pipe that removes the fillings from the teeth of anyone in the same county just doesn't cut it anymore. What do you think of the FMF Turbine Core 2 slip-on? I have one on my reeded Combat Wombat which works well, but the bike was tuned to that set-up. I just don't have the heart to take a cut-off saw to this Torque pipe! Any suggestions? New pipe? Back to the drawing board? Thanks so much!
Best,
Matt

Matt, let a picture. I'm sure someone here will have a idea. It wouldn't look right a new modern slip on a classic pipe.

Agreed! I just couldn't do it. Its so cool and absolutely period correct. Its a real time capsule if one wants to ride a legit race bike from 1972. It runs, sounds, and looks right. Once cut, its done for. I'll get a picture posted tonight. I also owe you one of my carb drain rig!!!! Thank you!!

Best,

Here's the current Torque Engineering chamber. It was originally a low pipe modded for high right-side mounting by Hodaka Dave. Note the totally sweet heat shield lovingly tacked on by Hodaka Dave. Slick!

It looks like there is some type of baffle at the end but there is no evidence of any removable/repackable components and this pipe is absolutely rip-your-head-off LOUD!!!!!!! I cant find any technical information or specifications on this pipe but it looks like an aftermarket Torque Engineering Super Rat replica. Befure welding and painting, there was a Torque decal on the pipe.

Matt,
That cap on the end looks to be held on by a screw or rivet on the underside. If you remove the cap, the perforated core and the packing around it can be removed (might take a little work after all these years). If you clean the perforated core and repack the fiberglass around it the "sharpness of the bark" may be subdued a little. It's definitely an integrated silencer.

Matt, if I were racing your Rat I would find a DS tank if you like the chrome or plastic Clarke. That Rat tank is very hard to replace, I sold one this weekend for a lot of money, I was saving it till I knew the tank on my bike was perfect in and out. And same with the fenders, unless you can do metal majesty the early fenders can't be replaced.

Hey Kelly, that is really good advice. My Rat is an active race bike and, knock wood, I've never really wadded it up - badly. When I think of the condition of my Rat bike's tank from days of yore (utterly destroyed), its no surprise that these tanks are becoming vanishingly rare. Ditto on the fenders. I think I will swap it out for a spare DS tank I have - (I do like the chrome, who doesn't?). Maybe its time to check out a pair of PPP fenders as well. Metal Majesty would be a far cry from my relatively rudimentary (read: 'hand me that ball peen hammer') metal working skills. As for the pipe, you are absolutely right. There is a baffle which is removable with some extremely crusty (what's left) fiberglass packing which was replaced (yes, in fact - I am a moron for missing that). The effect on the brain-melting loudness was minimal at best although, as you suggested, not quite as insanely shrill. Hey, its a racing pipe. When I was most actively racing back in the 70's and early 80's you couldn't hear yourself think at the track and we liked it that way. Fortunately, our local VMX-friendly track is totally cool with it and on the other tracks where I race vintage bikes that tech-out the SR, Hello Combat Wombat and RM250C2. Problemo solved. Thanks for the great advice Kelly.

The very best and coolest features of the entire Wombat series distilled into one machine. That's great work, Kelly.

Best,

Matt
