Crank Flywheel Nut 10mm by What Pitch?

Post by viclioce »

Are all the flywheel nuts which mount it to the crank a 10mm by 1.0 pitch or are they a 1.25 pitch? It looks fine threaded enough to be a 1.0 pitch. I need to rethread the end of the crank because some PO previously hit the end with a hammer and mushroomed it a bit. Not a lot, just a bit, so I can't get the nut threaded on. I've already filed a chamfer into the end of the crank but need to get the correct sized die to re-run the threads clean. So, 1.0 pitch or 1.25 pitch? The manual only says 10mm but not the pitch. ; D Victor

When you buy the die, get a metric thread gauge also. They do come in handy, and aren't expensive.

I didn't end up buying a die or a thread file. The end of the shaft was a bit mushroomed. So I filed a chamfer into the mushroomed end and just let the nut grab threads a bit lower down the shaft. Before & After pics. ; D Victor

Good job Victor you made it work with what you had. I tried to find a die a couple years ago for cranks and it took a while on the web, but I might suggest its good to have one in you tool box when you need it next time and its good to clean threads with as well. Bruce

Thanks Bruce! I'll be on the look out for one. & will buy one when I find one. I may have to go down to the big city to find it tho. Santa Fe still suffers from small town tourist trap mentality! ; D Victor
