What is this?

Post by bchappy »

Found at an estate sale and got it free as no one knew what it was. It is about 10 inches long.

Looks like it was made to grab or clamp something.

Stainless steel? Looks very well made and not for automotive type use...perhaps some sort of medical clamp? Just a guess :)

It is not stainless. The handles and movable bottom part of the clamp seems to be cast aluminum and the arm and top part of the clamp is plain steel. The black part showing on the bottom clamp is a hard rubber. Construction is not heavy enough for automotive work and by not being stainless I don't think it is for medical use.

In the glass business we called them snappers, sometimes when cutting curved lines they helped you hold for a quick snap. I sold mine a long time ago and would like to get another pair what would you want for yours? ----Clarence

It's a fish hook remover for large fish mouths. Like sea bass, shark, tuna, etc. clamps on to the hook for easy removal extraction. ; D Victor

I don't know if this is actually what it is, but I have seen some at an Upholstery shop. They were used for setting tacks, staples, etc. into the items they were working on, when hammering wouldn't work.

I think we may be getting close. I can see how that might work.
