Dykes ring orientation question
Dykes ring orientation question
Just a quick question for the group. Because Paul at SH didn't have any +.20 pistons left for my Road Toad, I ended up buying a +.30 Super Rat piston from him. He said the single ring piston would work fine. I just got the cylinder back yesterday from the mechanic who bored it for me and will likely reassemble everything this weekend. My question is, with the single Dykes type ring, does the part of the ring that is 90 degrees from the part of the ring that fits in the piston groove face up or down? My mechanic said he's always seen them facing up on anything he's ever worked on, but suggested I check here first to make sure Hodaka didn't do it differently. Thanks!

Re: Dykes ring orientation question
Goes on so the end looks like a capital "L" - not like a "7".

PS: You simply can't put it together with the ring on up-side down. You won't be able to get it into the bore with ring up-side down.

Keep the rubber side down!
Re: Dykes ring orientation question
Thank you Ed! That's exactly what my mechanic thought too, but we just wanted to be sure. I appreciate the help!
