I've got an InOp speedo on the W'Bat. Needle is at max clockwise and bounces loosely so I'm guessing that the "watchspring" has unconnected. The ODO and TripODO still work. Does anyone know of a webpage where someone has gone into one? I'd like to have an idea of "gotchas" before I do mine...

Norally, they are not designed to taken apart... but it can be done. I can help with the disassembly, maybe you can help with repairing the springs so that the needle doesn't bounce around so much?
In order to open the Speedo, you have to remove the chrome trim ring, after which, the whole thing just comes apart easily. To remove the chrome trim ring, place the speedo upside down on a flat surface, use a very small bladed tool that can be inserted beneath the trim ring lip and start working your way around the trim ring lifting that lip very slightly. You will go around the speedo about 20 - 30 times. The point being that you want to raise the lip evenly without stretching the metal. Once you have lifted the lip of the ring, the speedo will lift right out.
Use some sort of loctite on the small screws, they will loosen if you don't. And the needle will pop right off with a little bit of wedge pressure. But take care that you don't scratch the paint on the speedo face. It's very thin.
To reassemble: Assemble all the parts upside down on a flat surface in such a way that you can get two wood clamps on the speedo to clamp it down into the rubber gasket in the trim ring. I use a small piece of 1 x 4 plank. Clamp the speedo *body* so that the speedo walls support the clamping pressure. Clamp on opposite sides. Once you have clamped it down begin rolling the trim ring lip back down where you can. Move the clamps, roll some more. Repeat until sealed.
I have not found a good tool for this and have ended up using a paint can opener, or small bladed screwdriver. It also might help to clamp the speedo down to get started, it is a very tight fit under that trim ring. PS. I don't recommend using any liquids on the speedo face. Just a dry soft cloth. The numerals can be removed easily.

Oops, Roger, my earlier reply didn't post.
Un-crimping and re-crimping the chrome bezel is critical and a major PITA. Same arrangement as with the BMW's Motometer unit.
