250 SL / ED ignition timing

Were there any revised ignition timing specs for the 250 SL/ED since they were introduced? I have the owners manual specs. I need to mark the flywheel/case for timing reasons and not go by the factory "align the stator/case marks". The reason for this is that I replace the stock mag coils (looked like something retrieved from the Titanic) with Suzuki TS 250 coils. Right now I believe the timing is retarded, even though it will start very well.
