Cleaning stains off a white fuel cap

Post by viclioce »

Someone posted a good method for cleaning stains off a white gas cap.

I tried using carb cleaner on this one, but it's not all coming off. So please give me a shout out on a way to clean it. I was thinking about painting it white, but there are a lot of paints out there which aren't fuel resistant. ; D Victor

If the stains have not penetrated into the plastic, they may be removed by "polishing" the cap with automotive rubbing compound. If they have penetrated, they are now beauty-marks... :)

Well, Beauty Marks they are! The top of the cap has become granular and even Emory cloth didn't work! I got some but not all out. It will be a reminder that the bike is 41 years old!
