A little help

Anyone from the Montrose, Colo area heading up to Hodaka Days and have room to haul 1 non Hodie with them ? Let me know, if not I have to plan a loop thru there to pick it up.

Any actual knowledge of US 50 out of Denver to Montrose? And then US 6 up to SLC? Good road?

If you are taking I-25 down to Pueblo you can get US 50 there. From Pueblo you go west through Canyon City and on into Salida. The road between Canyon City & Salida travels along the Arkansas River. This stretch has great twisties for MC riding.

From Salida to Montrose there are mountain passes and more winding roads. Great again for Road Bikes, not so great if your pulling a trailer. If the latter it will be slow going.

But it is beautiful country over numerous mountain passes including Monarch Pass, if I remember correctly. And you'll pass numerous high mountain reservoirs with expansive views.

If you go US 285 out of Denver, it will dump out just below Buena Vista and then south to Ponchas Springs immediately west of Salida. It's more direct to go to Montrose this way and also some beautiful roadways.

Either route you take, pulling a trailer it's going to take you around 3.5-4 hours from Denver to Montrose. If it were me, I'd go 285 to 50 and then go west in 50. Especially if you're pulling a trailer.

If you are going to continue west on 50 and end up going through Grand Junction, you'll be better off taking I-70 west out of Denver. You'll arrive in Grand Junction in about 2.5-3 hours. It will take you nearly 5-5.5 hours or possibly longer with truck traffic, going US 50 to that point and will be easier pulling a trailer. And you'll still see beautiful mountain scenery on I-70. ; D Victor

If SLC is your destination out of Denver you're going to be on the road a very Very VERY long time taking any part of US 50. Better to take I-70 all the way into Utah and take 191/6 the rest of the way. You can do Denver to Salt Lake in an 8-9 hour day going this route. Going to SLC with a detour through any part of US 50 would easily take you 10-12 hours or more, depending on truck traffic and how fast you can go. I-70 is really your best bet, unless you're in no hurry, don't care how long it takes and are more interested in scenery and driving slowly.

But the fastest route to a Salt Lake City outbid Denver is I-25 north to I-80 in Douthern Wyoming and straight shot west on 80 to SLC. ; D Victor

Have to pass thru Montrose to do a bike pick up. Otherwise I would stay on 80 to 84 then north to Oregon. If I can't find the bike a ride north, I have to pick it up.

Yeah. I realized that afterward. I was wondering why you would want to go 4 hours out of your way. At least it will be a beautiful drive. Best bet is going to be US 285 out of Denver to Panchas Springs then 50 west to Montrose. If you leave Denver at 7:00 am, you can be to Montrose by noon. Load the bike, grab a quick lunch & be back on the road by 1:30 pm and you can be to Salt Lake by dark, cause dark doesn't come till about 8:00 in the mountains and you'll be moving west. But you still have to go 650 miles total that route. And it won't be averaging 65-70 mph. ; D Victor.

Plans are to leave out Sun am, the 19th, be in Moline, Ill Sun night, be somewhere on the SW side of Denver on Mon night, do the pick up in Montrose mid day Tues, if all goes well ,and on up to Tremonton to overnight on Tues night. Then on to Pendleton on Wed.

If I were coming to HD, I could stop on my way up. But I'm going to Reno & Northern Califoria on my 1500 & departing on June 8th. Won't be back to Santa Fe until at least the 20-21st. I couldn't take two trips, that close together!

Plus the grandsons will be out of school and we provide summer care/recreation for them! This Summer should include lots of Hodaka riding! Just trying to get my son in law to find his impact driver so I can pull the clutch nut off the crank & get the RT cases split! ; D Victor!

Another option would be if someone could get the bike up to the Tremonton area, I could pick up both bikes there without having to go thru the mtns in Colo. Just a thought. Cash for gas is available.

I am 30 min away from Tremonton and it's very possible we will be going down to Ephraim Ut between now and mid Jun. Ephraim is ~4 1/2 hours from Montrose, CO. I'll give you a shout if we end up going. I'm sure we could work something out if interested.

OK, if Roger can help me out, my route will change slightly. Moline on Sun, Laramie Wy on Mon, and into Tremonton on Tues, just earlier in the day, just not sure how early. Roger, I'll get you the contact info for the bike pick up.......

Jumping this back up to verify if plans are moving forward, I prefer not to have to reroute at the last minute.
