Handguards

Post by Bill2001 »

I plan to do trail, trial-type and off-trail riding and want to get a pair of handguards. I've looked at the Moose Racing handguards:

http://www.mooseracing.com/products/?productId=114634

I think that the regular, plain-jane handguards will work and I don;t think it will need the "Contour" type with the offset inner mounting clamp. I'm not sure how the size will work out-- I'm thinking "Standard" will do, but they don't list dimensions for reference. The bars on my Wombat 94 are 7/8" bars, and the distance from the end of the bar to where the inner clamp would fit is 8" (+/- 1/2").

Does anyone know the length of the Standard Moose handguard?

I have the "mini" size on my 125 and 250.

I just remembered I have Renthal 611 bars, not stock Hodaka bars..... So this was useless information (but I really like the Renthals)

As far as I know these are stock bars. It would help if Moose would list dimensions of their handguards-- the flat outer part of the bars is 8" and not much more. AFAIK, our local Moose dealers are generally non-stocking and I'd hate to order and have it be wrong.

Bill,
I stock the Moose handguards here. I can get a measurement for you but I will say that the inboard mount is almost always on the rise part of the bars inboard of the uppermost bend in the bars. Very few bars have more than 8" of flat section on the end. I hope this is helpful.

Ah, that makes sense-- "I just assumed" they'd fit along the flat end.

Bill,
Hopefully better late than never. I had promised some info on the Moose handguards. The photos show the overall length to be about 12 inches from outside to inside mount. The other photo shows that when mounted the inside mount is actually below the crossbar on the handlebars. I hope this is useful info.

That is good information, Ivan. The Standards are much longer than I thought they'd be. Based on Mike's comment that he uses the "mini" guards on his Wombat, I ordered that smaller size via my local motorbike shop.
