The Pomeroy memorial challenge 125 series

Post by JayLael »

First round of the three round series is April 2nd, at Boise Idaho. This class will be crammed full of some heavy hitters. Besides the usual suspects, there will also be Broc Glover on a 125 Honda, Danny Turner on a Ted Boyko/Mike Buschat tuned Monark 125, possibly Chuck Sun, if he can borrow a bike, and I'm sure a host of other amazing riders. I will be representing the Hodaka brand, and trying my best to hang with the big dogs. If anyone feels like showing up to see how this plays out, that would be great. Rumor has it there will be eight guys on Monarks alone, many of them former factory riders.
Last year I had a chance to race with Andy James on a Moto concepts sponsored Honda CR 125. He goes pretty quick. As the current pacific northwest 125 expert champion, I have a certain shall we say motivation to try and do well here. There will be a whole gang of riders who want to see me get smoked. I will try to frustrate those aspirations. Jay

Jay,
I am planning to be back in Boise for this great event. I will be cheering you on! I will be bringing my Combat Wombat again but won't be riding in this class. Well unless I could run some interference when you all begin to lap me...
Good luck over there!

I'll be there again with my SC and I may just enter with the sole goal of keeping from being lapped! Then again, it might be more fun to just watch! I know I'll have some fun again trying to keep up with Dale on Saturday....

Jay, we will be there again this year, Hodakaparts.com Idaho, , we will be representing the Northwest with the all new line of Preston Petty Products, look for the Pop Up tent, with a big Preston Petty Logo banner and lots of product to touch and look at, We will try to answer all Preston Petty questions. Come on by, will have a few Hodaka pieces as well in case there might be a rare Hodaka breakdown. Bruce Young

The new little race bike getting fired up for the first time. This was with the jets the carb came with. After this was filmed, I chaged the brass several times, and she sounds much better.

Inside the engine of the new 125 Brumby. Note the JB weld in the transfer area. This is where the cases have been welded and the transfer passages dramatically enlarged.

The new Brumby does work pretty well. I managed to hold my own against the incredible pool of talent there. Fifth in the Pomeroy cup race, and first in 125 vintage expert. Here are some pictures to give you an idea what went on there. This is the rider roster, not the results. Results are
1 B Glover
2 M Sullivan
3 K Spencer
4 Scott Wallenberg
5 Jay Lael
That's the ones I remember. Mike Allen got the holeshot in moto 1 and fell down in the second turn while leading the field.
At least he is feeling better.

Hodaka world look out, Jays new "Bromby" he has just completed and ran at the Boise Inter-Am mx event, is a rocket ship, does not sound like a regular race Hodaka, its screams, in a way that it will catch your attention, this bike is going to be featured in the up-coming resonator, and I can what to see the eng. details and other trick items this guy puts on his machines, both bike he had at the event really flew. Keep an eye out for the article it will be worth reading about, and I think he told me he will take them to Hodaka Days 2016 this year. Very nice gentleman, he will answer all questions, and he is, proud of this new toy as he should be. See you all at Hodaka Days 2016 in June. Bruce Young

Thanks for the nice comments! I'm really pleased with the bike. I think the first article is more or less background info on how the bike came into being. The second as yet unwritten one, will delve into the engine in more detail.

Thank you. It's all in your head whether you did good or bad. Something we all struggle with I'm sure. Sometimes I look at this and feel elated! Other times I think of ways I could have tried harder or something. Thanks.

Jay,
You make the Hodaka fans proud by running up anywhere near the front with this lineup. I remember Doug Riddle from the Lewiston area mx tracks in the early 70's. A very fast rider indeed. You are in very good company. Congrats. And... I have to wonder what the outcome would have been if the race would have been held on the winter track as originally planned?

On the racer x website , as a promotion for this event it say's
" Six-time AMA champion Broc Glover will be on an Elsinore battling the Monark team of Danny Turner and Scott Wallenberg, Hodaka factory rider Jay Lael, Team CZ's Ed Simms and more! "
I'd say Hodaka and Jay Lael are considered "The big boy's" and you represented Hodaka well.
