Ace kill switch

Post by viclioce »

I have a spare, single wire push button kill switch that I want to connect to work on my Ace. Can someone tell me how a single wire switch works, other than it likely grounds through the handlebar? To which wire on the harness would I connect the single wire and what color is it? Thanks! ; D Victor

Yes, it supplies ground from the handle bars to ground out the ignition coil. You will have black and blue wires to the ignition coil. You want the single wire of the kill switch connected to the black wire at the ignition coil.

All that said, be advised that this type of kill switch is far less reliable than a 2-wire switch. I am personally not a fan of this type of switch and especially if anyone unfamiliar with the bike is to ever ride it. A two wire switch connects to the blue (ground) and black (ignition) leads at the ignition coil and just provides a short between the two.

OK Dale. Good to know. I'll get another 2 wire switch and be safer! ; D Victor

Is the current SH Kill Button a two-wire switch?

You can always make a single wire kill switch into a two wire switch simple by running a second wire from the kill switch body to the blue wire.

Yes, I purchased this switch for my 98 Super Rat and it is a 2-wire.
