Hodaka/ Rickman
Hodaka motor and a Rickman frame on the Scranton, Pa craigslist site. I can pick up and haul if needed.

I wonder if mounting your Webco head sideways increases or decreases cooling.

Re: Hodaka/ Rickman
As good as the giggles are . . . is the photo just offering up an "optical contusion"? (OK, illusion) Doesn't the Webco head have angled fins on both sides?

Keep the rubber side down!
Re: Hodaka/ Rickman
That IS a Webco head. You can tell because the fins are angled. It's just a bad photo angle. The cylinder appears to be Webco too! Is anyone going to buy that? The motor and head alone are worth more than $500! The Rickman frame is a BONUS! I wish this was close to me! I'd go get it in a flash! ; D Victor

Re: Hodaka/ Rickman
Here is my Webco head. There must be more than one configuration, for mine looks different.

Re: Hodaka/ Rickman
Like I mentioned before, I can pick up and haul or I'm pretty good at boxing stuff up and shipping, so if you want it, work the deal and I can get it to you.
Re: Hodaka/ Rickman
Ok Gang, which way would you mount it? Webco on the right.
Re: Hodaka/ Rickman
Notice on the Webco head above that the fins flare on one end and are straight on the other. It will mount either way (even sideways) but it is a matter that has been discussed. Rick has his flare to the front, I run mine to the back which brings up a conversation about Ram versus Venturi. All trivial of course but I always thought by running the flare to the back it would divert heated air around the carburetor which is a good thing. I think we should run it however it looks best to the owner but not sideways.
Another opinion.

PS--OK I'm just having fun. It could be perhaps a Webco kit 125 head maybe mounted correctly or even something else--Not a good shot. If so it doesn't look like any of the dozens of 90-100 Webco heads that I sold. Does anyone have a picture of the 125 kit head?

Hmm, the cylinder is different too. I think it is a Webco 125 kit. (I've been wrong before--but only twice.)

Greetings
If you tour the SH museum, you will find photo's of this head and cylinder. Click to photo # 52 , 60 and 66 and you will see how the head fins are angled to the rear center of the head.

Re: Hodaka/ Rickman
Ah, thanks Tom, that does confirm it to be a Webco 125 kit. At first glance it really did look like a sideways Webco head. Stranger things have happened!

Here's another. And the head is mounted correctly, with the flare facing forward, not backwards. Somebody needs to do some brushing up! ; D Victor

Re: Hodaka/ Rickman
Thanks guys, I was momentarily fooled into a wrong assumption that the picture was an Ace 100/Webco head crossways. Perhaps (and I'm claiming) that the photography was poor ( in the business we call it "good enough") and it was hard to tell what it was. At least I use a CAMERA (not a phone) and I am right side up and in focus. My other excuse is that I've only seen one of these examples in my incredible long life. I wonder what you would use for a replacement piston. It would be a 125 piston and a Ace 100 rod/crank. One more comment on the Webco kit that I saw. It had a press-in liner that did not match well with the cylinder ports. It would take a lot of grinding and filling to make me happy and to get the full potential out of that set-up. Better to just start with a Wombat and later.
As for the flare I'm talking about is on the 90/100 Webco head. Here's a shot (not blurry--not from a phone or toaster) of what I'm talking about. The head can be mounted two ways, Flare to the front or flare to the back. Again which IS front or back? Do we go with the Ram effect or the Venturi effect? It probably makes no difference but I always thought that the flare should be at the back to route heated air past the carb. In reality it probably makes no difference but it's fun to discuss.

Re: Hodaka/ Rickman
If it doesn't move soon I may pick it up and bring it to Hodaka Days with me.......
Re: Hodaka/ Rickman
Here is the one I built. I found that to correct the head position all you have to do is un bolt it hold it up and turn the bottom end around and re attach Also that cylinder has the worst ports I have ever seen and the transfer ports a way too small to make serious power . The replacement pistons seem to be extinct I have looked every where .

Wow, a nice specimen Rich!

PS-- I agree, worst ports I have ever seen.
