Ace 100 donated for a great cause!

Post by bermshot »

I'm with the TVRC (Texas Vintage Racing Club) and we have an ex racer who has been taking pictures of races since the late 60's. I met him around 72 when I was racing a CZ400 with him, having moved up from my 1st bike, a 68 Ace 100. Since the start of our club he has been coming to the local races , taking pictures and posting them for all to take with out any charge. We talked about our start in the bike life and he mentioned his 1st bike was a 68 Ace 100, what a coincidence ! I had 3 scrap 100 all stripped down that I thought I would build someday and decide that day had come. I saw one for sale at Christmas , a 68, bought it. It was stripped down also but had half the wire harness. I've been rushing around trying to find parts to get this back stock, ran 750 miles to Ks just to get a bike with an original exhaust ( that ended up being damaged and no baffle or tip!) and still no electrics. So now I have 3 wks to get this together for our banquet on Jan 31. I take 4 tanks that have dents to the plating co to strip and all but 1 come back eaten up under the chrome. I take the pipe and that tank to the welder to fill so I can get them plated, it never gets done. My land lord says he just so happens to have a Hodaka ( a 67)!, still stripped down, no electrics, I buy it just to get the tank and a better seat and parts. I have 6 bikes torn down, paint a frame, steal a headlight of a Gemini project, tail light off my 305 Dream, build a harness, bar switch from a Honda XL 80 and with out a key switch , battery box or rectifier yet I have to wire it up directly (thanks for the help in another post I have). Took the pipe back the day before D-day, putty it up and have to paint the tip black. Get it together hrs before the show . I'm working on one too! It's a rolling chassis right now. But I have everything. Just don't have what you need as a spare!
