34mm conversion
34mm conversion
Greetings
Can anyone tell me what would be involved in installing 34mm Hodaka forks on a model 01 Dirt Squirt? Is this a workable mod for this bike, or is it better suited to the 125's?
Thanks
Tom

Re: 34mm conversion
you need to make sure it has the right steering steem which u can buy from paul and then u need to make steering stops as the are different from the bike you are putting the forks on. but its a great mod. Scott

Re: 34mm conversion
If you get a set triple clamp and forks from the 03 125 wombat its a direct change with fork stop mods easy. If you get a set triple and forks from a 250 you need to swap out the stem with one of the modified that Strictly Hodaka sells, fork stop mod also.
Re: 34mm conversion
We are out of the stems unfortunately and am searching for a new manufacture.

Re: 34mm conversion
Can someone attach a picture of a good way to create a new steering stop for this conversion (I will be doing it on a model 97 Super Combat and a 95 Combat Wombat).
Thanks
Thanks
Re: 34mm conversion
I was told that the forks and triple clamps that I have, where taken from a wombat. The steering stem measures 7 3/4" from the bottom of the lower race to the top. Is this the correct length for the 01 frame? It also has the correct races for my application if I am not mistaken.

Re: 34mm conversion
Tom that is the correct one!!
Re: 34mm conversion
With a 34mm fork conversion, what rear suspension changes would work best?
Thanks for your input.

Re: 34mm conversion
Picture of the steering stop I welding onto the front of my Super Combat (97). It is just like the one on the Wombat (03) and I welded it on before powder coating. I used the stem that Paul had back then. I just left the stock stop on the back side.

Re: 34mm conversion
Or weld 1/4 square or key way stock to the each side of the stock stop.
Re: 34mm conversion
Also if you are using forks from an SL 250 they will be Waaay to stiff, ED springs are a bit softer and the o3 wombat springs I think work best when used with about a 1 inch spacer.

Is there a way to determine which springs I have? Mine are 17 5/8" long, and there is a 1 1/8" spacer.
The person I bought these forks from told me that they where from a Wombat, but did not specify which model. I'm thinking that the forks that I have are from an 03 Wombat. The other Wombats have the 30mm forks if I'm not mistaken.

Re: 34mm conversion
Yes only one Wombat, the 03 use the 34mm forks. You need longer shocks in the rear also. I think 14.5" but someone else will confirm that.
Re: 34mm conversion
If yours have a spacer they are from the 03. Not sure of the length, but both of the 250s are longer and therefore do not need a spacer. Now can someone tell me how to tell the difference in the 250s if you don't know from which one they came.

Re: 34mm conversion
I believe Bill is correct on the o3 spring thing. I dont know measurements though and Im not going to tak mine out to measure them. If you have SL springs you will know when you ride it since the forks wont move much it will ride like a Mac thuck. If you have o3 springs it will sag without spacers. The rear shocks I used are Super combat but I also moved them forward about 4 inches on the top and bottom and bannaned the swing arm . So Tom if you send me your e mail address I will send you a picture of my Dirt Squirt wit suspension and a reeded 125 engine .

Rich, Try clicking on the "Quick Reply" then below that screen is "Full Editor", then below that screen on the left is "Upload attachment". Browse for the picture on your computer, put your curser before or after the text then click "Add the file". You have to be in Full Editor as it is not available in the Quick Reply screen. Give it a try.

Thanks for the pic. Great looking bike.
Can you give details on how you modified the swingarm?

Re: 34mm conversion
I use the 250 forks and springs also.
This is on a 98 Rat, which isn't dimensionally different from the 01 Dirt Squirt.
I am using 14.25" shocks on the rear.
