Ed,

I had to Google it. :ugeek:
It seems it is the coil for the rear shock install. Only found one for automotive on YouTube. :P

I guess the original question will need clarification. While my off road race car has coilovers, I never considered a motorcycle shock with a coil to be a coilover, but I guess they are. So, are we asking how to get the coil spring on or off the shock? Would need to know which brand you have. Some don't come apart. Stock Hodaka far as I know did not come apart.

The steel chrome body shocks typical for the Ace models thru the Combat Wombat have a roll pin at the top between the eye and the spring holder flange. The roll pin can be driven out - then, provided you have a means to safely compress the spring AND a means for holding the shock shaft, the top can be unscrewed from the shaft. The shocks are not rebuildable, so all you will achieve is the ability to complete a more detailed clean up of the exterior of the shock though.

For those who missed it, he says he likes to work on his own car , which is where his coil over issue is. The only coil over here is the spark coil over the motor and the shocks when they happen to be going over your head . (endo) and of course the stator coils ......
