Re: what tank?
One of the things I use to clean the rust out of tanks is ball bearings or copper BB's. A little bit of gas in the tank with bearings or BB's in place, the petcock closed and the gas cap on, then shake the tank and let the bearings or BB's knock the rust loose. You can also pour some naval jelly int...

Re: Hit the Dirt!
For sure Greg. Took the turn too high and too slow. But it was my first time on the dirt in 40 years. And I was on my first lap still trying to figure out the course and the bike. I was going slow but didn't go low because the bottom of the turn was full of water. I didn't read that the turn was ful...

Hit the Dirt!
OK. I had been riding the Hodaka around the local subdivision in which I live, twice to the bike shop and once to my daughter's house about a mile away. I decided that today was the day I was going to take her out into the dirt! My grandson and I loaded her up in the back of the truck and took the b...

Re: Gears Not Engaging!!!
The bike seems to be running well these days! No more fouling of plugs and easy starts. I have increased the main jet from a 140 to a 150 and have ordered a 160, 165 & 170 to test with as well. Already I have been talking with Danny about changing the intake system. I am thinking of going with a...

Re: Battery box install - where's It go?
Thanks. So I guess it needs the long bolts to go all the way through either side. I will look at it and figure it out! Thanks! ; D Victor

Battery box install - where's It go?
I've been looking at the fiche but I can't figure out exactly where the Model 03 battery box bolts to the frame under the seat. How about a few clues??? Dan? AZ? Bullfrog? Thanks! ; D Victor

Re: Gears Not Engaging!!!
Now that's a great idea. But why would both sides say OFF with the center being on? If it has a standpipe I would need to figure out which way is reserve. But I'm guessing it doesn't. Makes me wonder if that's why the carb leaks from over flows sometimes but not others. ; D Victor

Re: Gears Not Engaging!!!
Bill the part number is 999016. The 017 is the gasket. But it doesn't say what the functions are. I would have thought the Model 03 had a reserve because it had an oil injector and you didn't need to pre-mix! But if mine is stock, there's no reserve. ; ( Victor

Clarence. There is only one petcock. It's on the left side. The lever moves to 3 positions. Both left and right are off while straight up & down is on. ; D Victor

Re: Gears Not Engaging!!!
Is there one from another model Hodaka that might work with the stock Model 03 tank? I don't want my grandson running out of fuel with only premix. He will be able to carry some two stroke oil, but it would be better if he has a reserve so he doesn't go flat dry. I know him. He will call me and say ...

Re: Gears Not Engaging!!!
Ordered more jets since no one spoke up. The 160 main goes in as soon as it arrives. If it doesn't sputter I will move up to 165 then 170 until it sputters the. Drop down 5 points. Keeping my fingers crossed. Also does anyone know the exact model petcock with a reserve function on it to fit a Model ...

Re: Gears Not Engaging!!!
I made another change today. I upped the main jet from a 140 to a 150. It was bogging down a bit during take off, now it seems to have smoothed out a bit more on take off with the 150 main. Paul's post to me about a 160 main being optimal for 7,000 feet in elevation is looking more & more correc...

Re: Just purchased 73 wombat
Get a big handful of ball bearings and put in tank with some fresh fuel. Put cap on and make sure petcock is closed. Then start shaking the tank to break up excessive rust in tank. Drain, catch bearings & clean & repeat! When no more rust breaks loose you can use tank. Just make sure you hav...

Richard. You're right I should have. But it was the first ride and I went less than an 1/8th of a mile. I was also on private property. And NM doesn't have a mandatory helmet law for folks 18+! It's not an excuse just an explanation. And yes, Max, a Great Big Smile!!! ; D Victor

Re: Gears Not Engaging!
Well. Last night I rode the Hodaka over to the Suzuki/Yamaha/Kawasaki dealership. They were having a "2 Stroke Bike Night!" The bike isn't street legal and registered yet so I rode there and back on the sidewalks! Pulled in and a lot of the guys who work at the dealership were so happy to ...

Re: Gears Not Engaging!!!
She is running!!! And pretty good too! I'm going to increase the main jet until she runs with a sputter and then come back down one size! Now I can see the specs that Paul posted saying this bike should have a 160 main jet at 7,000 feet, with a 24mm carb. I'm 2 sizes below that right now and she fee...

So this is the Combat you were telling me about. I'm very impressed. I love the work you've done on the cases and on the reed valve ports. I'm hoping later on to upgrade this motor to a reed valve and the correct piston needed to make the reed valves work properly.it may be that I will send you my m...

OK, good news and bad news. First, I have been riding the bike! And my grandson rode it for the first time yesterday. He's still being overwhelmed by the clutch, but in time I am sure he'll get the hang of it! The bad news is, now that she's running the carb bowl is flooding over! I pulled the needl...

OK. Got the woodruff key today and got it installed. Two big THANK YOUs, to Bill Cook and to Dan Cooke! Bill sent me a free woodruff key and Dan talked me through all the install irregularities. A tiny bit of blue loctite on the bottom of the key and another dab on the crank threads. Added the missi...

It's been amazing watching and reading what you're doing with this bike. I don't feel so all alone with my '76 Wombat! I hope I get mine running again soon. Waiting for the key which should be here tomorrow. Keep up the great work! ; D Victor
